The 50 Plus Cafe, Pub, All-Nite Greasy Spoon and Dive Bar

So far so d, ma'am, and Happy Weekend to you, too.


I pulled out Wonder67's s'ghetti sauce recipe and the Desire to Tune that has always liked in my head. So, crushed tomatoes. I made the bestest sauce ever when I used Romas that I had grown myself. That's not happening this year, but I discovered that Contadina cans Roma maters, so I scored a bunch. It doubled the cost of that ingredient, but it sure as Hell tastes like I had a hankerin' for and that's all that matters. I use more garlic and onions, and I'm tossing in 2 pounds of mild Italian sausage. I weaseled out on the spices and just used Italian seasoning, but I used a lot of it. It''s be ready in 8 hours because it's getting the very slow cook.
 
I bought my mom a bottle of Glen levitt 15 yr..apparently aged in bourbon barrels. There were a lot of choices so I picked what I thought was best (and didn't cost 179 dollars)
I think I’ve read somewhere that ALL Scotch is aged in bourbon barrels imported from the US or Sherry barrels imported from Spain…(I’m sure there are exceptions to the rules) but it’s common practice so I’ve been led to believe…

Over in the PG thread PhotoGirl started a recipe thread…maybe we should put one here so we don’t have to go digging into 300+ pages to find that one drink or spaghetti recipe?

That's an idea I can get behind.
We’ll let it marinate for a day, let the gals get some input and we’ll brainstorm ideas about how to do it…

I’m going to go find PhotoGirls thread and post it here…she formatted it in a Recipe book style somehow, so we’ll get our smart gals/guys on it…I do NOT include myself in that smart set! 🤣

Don’t know if it applies to ā€œallā€ Scotch; however, during prohibition in the U.S. whiskey barrels were ā€œone and doneā€ and found there way to Scotch distillers.

The use of sherry and port barrels goes back a couple of centuries when it was imported to England in barrels and then bottled there which left a lot of cheap empty barrels around to be repurposed.

Check out how she formatted the recipes! 😮. Very cool. I’m positive I had contributed but couldn’t find my entry. B2 has something on there I think.

I’ll send her a PM and ask how she did that…I assume it’s as easy as just taking it to a Word doc and using a template? Anyhow….I think it would be a good addition to our little community as we seem to have a fair amount of good cooks hanging around this Cafe/Pub/All night greasy spoon!

Welcome to the old persons room!! Where we talk about mowing the yard, keeping the darn kids off our nice lawn, cooking and bbq, and the noises we make getting out of a chair. lol

The thread had been bumping along but I had an issue with an image I posted in a different thread (I think it was a rainbow photo of the dog park 🤣🤣) and all almost all my photos were removed. I thought I had replaced everyone’s recipes but I may have missed yours. I will look through my recipes and PM’s to see what I can find out.

I started it with @cascadiabound and then other bits of Lit and life took over. Cas and I wanted an aesthetic and easy to search thread. I droppped them all a little.

@sallysparrow23 has been contributing with her bread recipes and others have been posting too.
It would be great to really get it going again. What we did before is folks pm’d me their recipe and a photo and I made a card for it.
If that works I could keep doing it. Let me know if y'all are interested or if you just want to do the same thing here I just used a canva template that I modified. 😃

No. I’m not having any issues. Honestly, I did my best to fix the thread and then was a little disheartened about it and then life/Lit went other directions and I didn’t give it the love it deserved. Thank you for asking though šŸ’•
@Photog1rl What kinds of recipes do you want?
Any and all recipes. Our goal was ones you have tried and have insight into. What are your go to recipes. We broke it down by type of food and I think we started a key for if it easy or more advanced? But any input is great. Does it always work or is it finicky? What tweaks have you tried? Things like that.

Minding my own business planting punkins and tomatoes in the garden when I heard a big craaaaaaack. Then a boom of an electrical transformer.

Went running up the street and saw all the lines down. No power. luckily we have a generator.

This’ll take a few days… 😬 it’s JCP&L after all.

The fun never ends! šŸ˜‚

Yeah! You made it! I was going to attempt to make something similar here in the old folks home, so we didn’t clutter up the youn’uns threads on the PG! 🤣.

That’s probably more along the lines of how it is. Now that you mention it, I remember hearing that it started with prohibition. I didn’t know the sherry barrels had been used that long! 😮. Wow!
