The 50 Plus Cafe, Pub, All-Nite Greasy Spoon and Dive Bar

Busy weekend. Did our show yesterday and taught around 65 kids to tie their first trout fly. It was a great day with warm bright weather and temp around 70; hard work though. Today I have. 6 or 7 hour drive to visit my kids for their birthdays over the next few days so might not be on here much until I am back.

Thankyou, we weren’t teaching the fishing side itself just how to make a trout fly and how to cast. It’s quite a skill to cast a fly and for safety sake we taught that on grass with a fly with the pointy bit removed.

I love seeing kids achieve things they think they can’t. I taught martial arts before I moved to Scotland when I retired. This replaces the feeling I got seeing kids mastering karate and judo. So many don’t have people who can help them with things like this. I just feel we should give something back in this way!
 
I love this sort of thing, giving back to the community, you volunteering to help kids.

Well done. For some of those kids also a respite from other issues that may have been going on at home too.

Was this part of a longer activity for them, like an outward bounds course?
 
It’s a one off show and this is the second year it’s run. Last year though we sponsored eight kids through our winter formal classes. They come along each week and I teach them and provide all the tools and materials free. Then we have them join us on trips and teach them to fish with the flies.

I do quite a lot of community stuff up here. I Chair two organisations, one community and one sporting and sit as Trustee of two charities. I just see that this time of my life is about putting back in what I have taken out!

Just be careful if you're also having ice cream. Try not to drink tea at the same time. The tannins in tea can precipitate out calcium in the ice cream and lead to kidney stones in those who are susceptible. You don't need that on top of what you're already going through!

Thank you. I never knew. Fortunately I rarely eat ice cream. It’s my greatest temptation.

I was in bed by 8 PM last night and just woke up, still tired. I tackled yard work and have come to realize that my back sucks lol

Heading in to work later.

I hope everyone has a relaxing and enjoyable Sunday. Supposed to be nice and hot here today, after the fog burns off
