Greetings from a fellow nurse. I've only just come across your thread. I'm the last twenty five years in the same adult ICU, Now a senior clinical nurse manager. Never went further than this as I love the contact with families and patients and the opportunity to work with younger nurses, passing on my knowledge and 'relax, don't panic' attitude.
Before this I worked for three years in paediatric ICU in the Middle East, a real eye opener as it was a referral hospital for the whole Middle East, so only the sickest of the sick or those with something weird and wonderful got in.
Even though ours is a different system and not so money driven, I think health care managers world wide are a special breed of horrible and useless.
I've enjoyed reading your post's and hope you keep them going x
I ❤️ nurses. They help help put the pieces back together after I do something stupid.

My wife was a Nurse, started Med/Surg floor and moved over to NICU. Spent a lot of time there could stick anybody so she moved over to IV therapy eventually. She would tell me those same stories. Also how the student/new docs would constantly ask the nurses things and later totally ignore them.

Nurses are a rare breed, thank you for all you do.
I started in med surg and moved to the er... now I have a off the bedside job that allows me to work m-f no weekends no holidays

We use the term MacGyver all the time at work when it comes to fixing things or making them work, the young nurses just look at us blankly, definitely a generational thing, 😀
Nurses are not the same as when I started..... " what do you mean I have to have more than four patients.. what do you mean I have to start my own IV don't we have a team for that.. what do you mean I have to transport my patient to CAT scan.. where is the rapid response team".....just saying

Oh, girl! You sound like me! 🤣🤣🤣 I also had surgeons get mad at me for calling them to explain a procedure or surgery to a patient before witnessing a consent!

I was hauled into my manager's office one time because of it. The surgeon was in there frothing at the mouth. I just calmly asked my manager to help me understand the CA Nursing Act, explaining I was not a surgeon, and suggested she call the BON for clarification.

She hated me because I was such a smart ass. By this time, I was teaching at a university and only worked part time. IDGAF and she knew it. 😆🤭😆
There's nothing bureaucrats and self-entitled professionals hate more than to be told they are not following the correct legal procedures. More power to you! (y)👏

😄 You're sounding like an 'old un' now. They are definitely different from when I was younger, but maybe that's not a bad thing. They seem to have more confidence and are well able to stand up for themselves. As long as they're not lazy and can temper their confidence with a realisation of what they don't know, then I'm ok with it.
I'd like to say I think this because I'm young at heart but really, I'm a grumpy old git at heart 😄

Hi one and all, 56 yrs old Pansexul with Gender Dysphoria, married, family but a very big secret. Lots of therapy. Have found coming to Lit as been very refreshing, being able to open up a bit. Living in Herefordshire UK. Thank you for creating this thread Vicky xx

I am all for confidence and times have changed ...BUT.... the self entitled attitude is ridiculous.... I left the bedside because of other nurses... such a shame...

Ooh! Bummer! Ask the office to refer you to another ophthalmologist. They should send over all your records so you don't have to repeat things.
Yeah they said they would provide it all. The other part is my company isn't very big so we don't normally keep the same insurance year to year. So i waited to see who we would have this year, wouldn't you know it we kept the same for once. Now it has been long enough (originally scheduled for last November), i should check back to see if the Dr is better yet.

I just don't understand why i can't Uber (or other provider) home after the surgery, my built in driver isn't around any more. It isn't like i couldn't have Uber take me straight to the ER if needed. I'm getting my spinal done this friday and they said the same so i elected to go without anesthesia so i could drive myself home.

I just posted some good tips I got for sleeping 👆. Maybe some of them will help.

I’m no expert but tv and bedtime is “supposed to” be avoided. Same with phones and laptops, bcz of blue light.

We listen to music falling asleep - my wife has ringing in her ears too. (Tinnitus)

Good luck, maybe some of the ideas will help.
Thank you for that link, i've not been sleeping well for a while and will be trying some new things now. I can take naps but getting to sleep at night and staying asleep just doesn't happen. I've even tried not napping but as soon as i lay down i wake up. I'm a mess and i know it.

I hope it helps. I got a lot of good tips from it. I’m always sleep challenged, but the last year or so has been fairly good. I still only get 5-6 hrs per night but I’m mostly sleeping thru the night.

Tell them to head over to Paramount Plus or CBS All Access to watch! 😅

Didn't you guys just have a snowpocalypse? That should keep your beer cold. Meanwhile, we're having Spring-like weather here. It's in the 50s!
Mon. - Wed. we were in the very high 70's to low 80's. Almost broke a record high Wed. w/ 81*. The day's high record was 82*.

The reason you're asked to have someone drive you is so they can look after you, if needed. The Uber driver won't help you get into your house, get you situated, or look after you. It takes time for an Uber to get to you when you call for it. Time you might not have if you need to go to ER.

We call that "Summer" here! 😅😅
Last Summer, for the month of July, I mean June 30 - Aug 1, The daily high never dropped below 110*. The was 4 days in the month in a row where the daily high was 118 & 119*. The lows for those 4 days never got below 90*. That month was fun. I loved going out to football practice to stand / sit there and watch them do their thing each night.
