When the topic is suicides, the method is irrelevant.

If we are to engage in the fallacy of false cause, then we could point out that Democrats holding more power in government and setting economic policy leads to more suicide by guns.

Not all bridge columns on interstates are "protected" by guard rails. 90 miles an hours into one of those should cure what ails a suicidal depressive. But you have to admit, a .45 is much more effective than a bottle of pills.

USA suicide rate: 16.1 per 100K

The greatest country in the world!!!

Suicides by firearm in the US: 12.1 per 100K.
That leaves 4 per 100K by all other means. The reason guns are chosen is a) availability, b) efficiency. Poisons, hanging, jumping in front of trains etc are hard and less likely to cause actual death.

So take away the firearms and the US scores quite well on the suicide front. But if suicides are irrelevant why the fuss about Fentanyl smuggling when all those deaths are self-administered?
