The lit old timers thread

I think the interest in lit has faded for some.
A lot of people had their own little circle of friends. This was how Lint and Clique came about. A way for people to stay in touch with their friends.
Then social media took off. The need for an old fashioned posting board was no longer needed.
People’s lives changed, as well.

Why was I not invited to the Clint back in the day? People even said I was in this clique, but I never got any bennies from that. The tee-shirt never arrived. The key to the castle was never delivered. The sugar walls never wrapped me in sweet thunderblanket-esque mild asphyxiatory ecstacy. Despite that, though... I doubt I'll ever give up on this place. I've had some wonderful fits of wild and wooly inspiration here. I wish I could hit eject on the IFB cassette before this all disappears.

I think this format remains better for hangin' out and fuckin' around than any version of social media has ever concocted. Here, you can set the stage HIT THE goddamn LIGHTS... you can connect the thoughts, you can have history and notoriety. You can run through the room like a loon and put a flower in Debbie's hair and wink at Rainy, and boop Gravy's giant nutsack on your way to the mezzanine for a flaming topper and a diddle. And everywhere around you are endless possibilities, from dark alleys, to waterslides, and the bright light of the soul.

Plus, there are dirty pictures.

Ifb is too cool for invites. He takes the party wherever he goes. 🍸😁

"Yes..." He nodded approvingly, "...but, pictures schmictures old friend. There are live, nude, dirty people in this place. The unoffended and the unashamed. Hot blooded with full grown horns. One can wade into them like a field of lilies and peonies."

some poets are too busy slipping back under the covers, or wanting to, to write about it

This. Plus, people were getting outted here quite a bit. It got to where you didn't know who to trust. If you knew people IRL, it was just safer to stick exclusively with things like Facebook.
I think Lance calling unclej's mother prior to unclej's funeral (2007/8ish) and tattling on him for being at Lit -- and then bragging/posting about his deed here (as well as outting unclej here) -- was the end of the rope for some. I knew several teachers and people with jobs that couldn't handle exposure here who called it quits. Throw in the exposed message logs proving a concerted effort to undermine certain posters (one being me) and it made one think "What am I doing here?" There were other places popping up in which to stay in contact with those you cared about, without the threat of exposure or slander or ugly, bitting snark that became normalized. It just wasn't fun anymore. Now I am older and bored and it is fun to remember the good stuff. Damnation there were some really intelligent sharp-witted folk here that I enjoyed so much.

Where you going w/that gun in your hand?
At the music festival for the foundation in Bluesboy's name this past week, I'd reminded all the bands for both stages that this was a family friendly venue and a family friendly event. The metal band agreed to not play their song that is mostly F-bombs. A classic rock band agreed with me that Hey Joe was not appropriate for this crowd. So what did they play? Hotel California and Whole Lotta Love. *sigh* :) I tried. hahahahaha

told you didn't i? "catalyst"

ok, and maybe the perfect storm when it came to timing but it's so good seeing these names popping up!
I think the difference between this and other revival threads is that he put the burden on us to keep it on the front page. It's been a team effort. In that spirit, we've seen Cheyenne's favorite thread "HUGE SEAGREEN", and my favorite thread, "If I had the pow-aaaahhhhh" mentioned here and bumped up as a result. So, fellow oldies, can you find your favorite thread and link it for us? I think that such things keep us coming back and inspired.

Thank you for this Plasmaball.

That and messaging people in the hope they get a notification about it.
