SCOTUS watch thread: Trump immunity, Capitol riot defendants, abortion, censorship

That, although a good next step, would have done nothing to help the millions of Americans who are already drowning in debt they have no plausible way of paying down. Besides, I don't see how he could have gotten that through a Congress where Mitch McConnell has effective veto power over nearly everything.
I paid my way through college, worked side jobs, I was from a poor family and I managed. Should there be incentives for majoring in degrees that add to the benefit of our society’s needs, doctors, lawyers, nursing, yes, you get my drift. Paying other people’s debt is a new low, actually abusive and unfair to people who did handle their responsibilities. Kind of reminds me of our loose borders, some people did it right only to be supplanted by illegals.

Biden sidestepping congress is an abomination of our constitution.

I don't know how old you are, but my impression is you're older than I am, which means you came of age in an era when college was a LOT more affordable. Things have changed, and more recent graduates face challenges and odds that you simply did not have.

Every one of those professions include plenty of new additions who are currently up to their eyeballs in debt. In fact, especially the three you mention, which require a second degree.

Then surely you oppose the "too big to fail" principle and bailing out big businesses that go bust, yes?

Sooner or later, everything reminds you of illegal immigrants, Ican't.

After that completely clueless, out of touch comment from “Ican’t”, I am reconsidering my initial assessment that “Ican’t” is simply a garbage imdividual.

“Ican’t” is obviously a singularly ignorant garbage individual.

That ^ makes me SLIGHTLY less offended by “Ican’t’s”continued existence for some reason.

🤔

I ask you, why was college more affordable then as compared to now? IMHO Our politicians, **government** made dumb assessments that everyone should go to college, so they created a system of loans that benefitted college endowments, filled they're coffers with cash while our kids suffered increased debt. Very similar to the housing market where government felt everyone should have a home whether they could afford it or not ( Barney and Ted) both from my state 'embarrassing'. If the government used common sense and wanted to help they could lower interest rates on college loans, promote community or federal service such as military or other federal agencies to help their communities which would assist in paying back their debt. WIN! WIN! Setting a precedent that the government will bail you out at someone else's expense is more damaging over the long haul. We as a society need to stop pushing college education, IT'S NOT FOR EVERYONE!

They also have the best opportunity to be successful. I'm not against lending a helping hand but freebies at other people's expense is a slap in the face to those who achieved success through hard work and accepting and dealing with their responsibility.

Then surely you oppose the "too big to fail" principle and bailing out big businesses that go bust, yes?
Yes I am! I'm a firm believer that markets will self correct. Our government doesn't seem to understand that regulations should be employed to protect the consumer (taxpayer) not big business. The government can't seem to come up with a happy medium between under and over regulation. The cringe worthy cliche " I'm the government and I'm here to help" is true, bigger government is not the answer.
Sooner or later, everything reminds you of illegal immigrants, Ican't.
We are starting to feel the effects, the stress that is being inflicted on our communities forced to deal with an invasion they did not ask for. What's happening in France is coming to a town near you.

Spoken like a true progressive Marxist.

Smith named Stewart — and included a website service request from him, listing his phone number and email address in 2017 court documents. But Stewart told The Associated Press he never submitted the request and didn't know his name was invoked in the lawsuit until he was contacted this week by a reporter from The New Republic, which first reported his denial.

"I was incredibly surprised given the fact that I've been happily married to a woman for the last 15 years," said Stewart, who declined to give his last name for fear of harassment and threats. His contact information, but not his last name, were listed in court documents.

He added that he was a designer and "could design my own website if I need to" — and was concerned no one had checked into the validity of the request cited by Smith until recently.

Seems like he should be able to sue.

“The revelation distracts from Smith's victory at a time when she might have been basking in her win, which is widely considered a setback for gay rights.” 🙄

As we reflect upon the stellar set of decisions handed down by the US Supreme Court last week, special gratitude is owed the the late justice who will be forever remembered as “Notorious RGB.” She had the courage to resist those who tried to push her out before her time, and the strength to to battle cancer and live until the age of 87. 🇺🇸

Thanks Obama. Pay your debts kids.😀

Missouri, Kansas judges temporarily halt much of President Biden's student debt forgiveness plan

“Together, the two rulings, each by a judge appointed by former President Barack Obama, a Democrat, appeared to greatly limit the scope of the Biden administration’s efforts to help borrowers after the U.S. Supreme Court last year rejected the Democratic president’s first attempt at a forgiveness plan.”

Precisely, pay your own debt.

The fifth circuit has just been destroyed left and right this year by SCOTUS.

Saw that! 6-3 decision.

Naturally, "Justice" Alito's dissent was predictably angry as hell, his attempt to manufacture a "right to spread disinformation" from the bench was shot down.
