Chaotic Coffee Klatch (tea also available)

I consider my comprehension of the English language to be fairly good as it’s very close to being a first language to me. When I look through the jokes thread there are some jokes that I just don’t get, it can’t be because they aren’t any good because people give them “ha ha” emojis. Then my inglish most be pourly 😭😭😭

Nope. It's almost 8pm and I haven't eaten, or made, dinner yet. Also need to pack for the morning (need to get in the office for once) and bake my colleagues a cake.
Well I'll send a hug as there's not much else I can do to help 🫂
I do hope that your hard work and effort pay off so you can take it easier tomorrow after work

I wouldn't worry there are many native English speakers who struggle with basics.
I saw one earlier on (anti) social media who spelled St. George with an i in the middle. 🤣🤣🤣

Sometimes jokes have a cultural thing that can be unfamiliar, or puns can throw non-native speakers off too.

Nah, we were just discussing this concept. Many countries expose children to English at a young age. The foreign folks I meet online often have perfect English. However, it is formal. When we speak, much of what we say is informal, slang, and jargon. Exposure to how we speak only happens around people in their environment. Then coupled with some jokes do have culture references, double entendres relating to slang etc. Jokes are probably the most difficult concepts to share across languages, at least to me.

Shouldn’t that be 7pm or am I seriously going mad wrt time?
It was almost 8 pm. I wasn't back from the meeting at 7pm.
