It was on for twenty plus years, I eventually stumbled upon distilled vinegar and rolls and rolls and rolls of paper towels.

I've taken down wallpapers that had been on for probably 40 years. Time doesn't really make a difference. Except here the old ones are even more likely to be glued with water soluble stuff that you even had to mix yourself from powder and water.

But wallpaper that has been painted on... That's a pain in the ass. Even worse, there was one that had been 2cm overlapping, and then later on painted. That one was hopeless. Also the wall had not been being painted after applying filler, so it was soft behind the wall paper

I've never had a budget big enough to get it done professionally. I've always done painting, wallpapers and floors myself with some help from my parents or friends. It's enough to pay for the special professionals like electricians etc.
