if one tire is always turning at a different rate than the other tires because of a different diameter, it will cause the transfer case to always be slipping, which creates heat as well as wears much faster. However, how much of a problem that might be depends entirely on the car.

Absolutely! Of the vehicle doesn’t have any kind of limited slip, and is normally driven in 2 wheel drive, the tire size wouldn’t be a problem at all. And some driving in foul weather isn’t likely to cause too much additional wear (in my opinion, anyway).
