Music suggestions?

I had good luck with Pandora streaming. You pick some bands you like and it branches out from there. They claim their algorithm uses musical traits (e.g. four-on-the-floor beat) to find songs you might like. It helped me to find and rediscover interesting genres.

I was introduced to 4ZzZ 102.1 by a friend. Love the 'Subterrania' radio show. I listen to it via their streaming service and I subscribed. Love the freeform no-fucks-given attitude of the station!

I got into some Euro Folk thanks to my grandmother and her eclectic tastes in music. It's not for everyone, but I seemed to have taken a liking to it. Here's some examples...

Never heard anything like this before, but I want to hear more.

I'm bored of the music I listen to. I feel somewhat trapped by my Spotify playlists. They seem stuck in amber.

Any suggestions for something to listen to? I like most things, but I'm not really into country & western, or most of the rap that's come out over the last 10 years or so. I find contemporary Top 40 dull. I don't get Drake.

I'm trying to keep my aging mind open. I'm willing to try something different. I'm especially intrigued if there's new stuff out there that I'm just not aware of.
I could start with "WTF is wrong with Country Music!?!?", but, I won't do that

I would suggest listening to "Ol Blue Eyes" can never go wrong listening to him.

Sometimes a really different type of music makes a nice palate cleanser, a change of pace from what you usually like to hear. Back in the 90s, this ensemble's tunes happened to be played on the radio on a memorable evening for me, while I was making a video at home. The music thereby got on the video's 'soundtrack' and helped make it special. Here's a video of 'Deep Forest' performing "Night Bird":

I was just working long grueling hours on a government contract recently with a great bunch of people and we'd put on music whenever we could, just to help lighten the mood. We went with songs like Celebration and Ladies Night by Kool and the Gang, I want you back by The Jackson Five, anything by Dua Lipa, and lots of Maroon 5 to help keep our spirits up. Move Like Jagger or Sunday Morning are great, too. Also, lots of Bruno Mars, like Uptown Funk or Amazing are both great. Blurred Lines or Happy are always uplifting. We played Earth Wind and Fire's September and everyone liked that. Stevie Wonder is always nice to listen to. Of course almost anything by the Beatles is always amazing. I could go on, there's just so much good music out there to enjoy.

I'd suggest you start with Beethoven.
I hear something 'new' every time I hear the 9th Symphony.

Simon, Pink Floyd all the way brother. Depending on your mood you can try some of the earlier albums. Piper at the gates of dawn. Atom Heart mother. Or the later concept albums. Wish You were Here. Dark Side of the moon. Animals. The Division bell is more up to date. Can be great albums for inspiration too, especially the earlier stuff. Echoes too will send you on a nice trip too.

Brutal One

Syd Floyd is the best Floyd by far.

I've been a fan of Pink Floyd for decades, and I think their music holds up really well to this day, but I don't know all their work as well as I might. So I'll check those out. I know Dark Side of the Moon, Wish You Were Here, and The Wall backwards and forwards, but not all of the rest of their albums. I'm going to spend some time checking out some other prog/art rock bands from the 70s as well like King Crimson.

If you want good 70s art stuff, don’t forget the Germans. Can and Neu! are both excellent.

Lizzo's About Damn Time is pretty catchy. And you can't beat Joe Cocker or Van Morrison, they're both so good.

I was listening to this one:

Cita Citata - Meriang.

- and I thought of you.

If you'd like a delicious intro to bluegrass, this cut should do it. It's a band called Green Sky Bluegrass doing a cover of Pink Floyd's Time / Breathe Reprise from Dark Side of the Moon.

It cracks me up how the singer sounds like a goat sometimes.

Thanks to you tube side bar recommendations I've stumbled in these guys who are kind of a mix of rock, country and a bit of rap. Never been a fan of the latter two, but this does kind of work for me in a way. Videos are....shall we say entertaining as well.

SD,
I’ve read a ton of recommendations here for songs or playlists of music you probably already listen to. I too have very eclectic musical tastes going back to late 70’s rock (Van Halen, Scorpions, Police) to 80’s alternative to 80’s/90’s Country to Tupac/Snoop hip-hop & beyond. But about 5 years ago a friend turned me on to a genre of music that can best be described as American Reggae/Rock. Rebelution and StickFigure are two of my fav’s and nowadays me and my 50 something buddies are hooked. Start off with Rebelution’s ‘Feeling Alright’ or StickFigure’s ‘Paradise’ and see where it takes you. It’ll probably take more than one or two listens, but if you give it a few tries, I trust you’ll dig it. I was in a similar musical rut till I got rescued by this music!
Good luck…

Listening to Beethoven's 9th recently, I decided that it sounded all wrong. And, yes, my speakers were definitely not doing justice to Georg Solti and The CSO. So I splashed the cash on some new Bose kit, and all is well once more. :)

People might not be aware of Amapiano, a South African version of House/Dance music (to which I was introduced by my daughter).

I have an eclectic taste in music. Classical, jazz (Any artist any time), blues from the 20s to today, Rock & Roll from 1954 though like yesterday, pop, acid, heavy metal, film scores, horror, westerns, action-adventure, sci-fi, you name it, I listen to it. I put my headphones on and listen to epic horror from YouTube. Listen to 60s gold, 70s on 7, 80s on 8, and a myriad of channels on the SiriusXM app, with about 20 stations favorites, switching between them as something I want to hear pops up on one channel at end of my current song. But when writing, YouTube and epic music in one movie genre or another so I get lost in the music and pound the keys without worrying about what's next.
