Chaotic Coffee Klatch (tea also available)

I was in Vietnam earlier that year, and then I went back to Laos and then Vietnam in December (because I had this idea that Christmas in Laos sounded picturesque. That's a no, by the way.) into January. My son was teaching English in Vietnam, and when I left in mid-January, things were 95% normal. By the time he left in March, it felt like last helicopter out of Saigon (or Hanoi in this case!). It was wild.
That’s an amazing trip! How did your son like teaching in Vietnam? I almost went there to teach after Korea, but decided to go to Turkey instead. I probably should have gone to Vietnam 😂

Thank goodness he was able to get out! I went to China 6 different times that year, for about 14 weeks total.
It was funny, really...schools were closed for Tet, and then they were going to reopen, but basically they never did. So at some point it seemed to make more sense to come home. But he wanted to travel for a couple of weeks first, and about the 3rd week in February, that still seemed perfectly reasonable. Two weeks later, I was really worried about him getting out. (Even though there was about zero Covid in Vietnam for the longest time, but the US started shutting down the border, etc.)

He loved it. I love Vietnam; it's an amazing place, so beautiful, and the people are just the nicest, most kind and generous people that you'll find anywhere. Plus there's this whole cafe culture, legacy of the French really, and there are always people out doing things...the US always seemed so dull to me every time I came back. He taught there for about three years, so it gave me lots of excuses to hit up Asian conferences and so forth.

Of course, I've always wanted to go to Turkey, though...

I’ve always heard such good things about Vietnam. Especially that the people are so friendly! I would love a chance to visit without it being for work!

"You Always Come Back To Hurtin Me." Johnny Rodriguez is one of my favorites. I was supposed to see him perform down in Texas about a year ago, but he caught COVID a few days before. :(
Sorry to hear that. Google said you always come back.... with the (to hurtin me) in parentheses. So I just went with that
