Well, it's what it sounds like, sadly. Wine with snakes and scorpions and such in it. I stole this pic from Wikipedia but mine looks just like this more or less.

It's a Chinese thing really, and I suspect that it's largely a tourist thing in Vietnam because the place I tried it at was super touristy, and I've never seen it offered in other places, but who knows? I think it's basically just wine or grain alcohol with whatever you want to throw in it. In the place I tried it...it was this little island in the Mekong Delta, and half of the building was about making coconut candy, and then there were these other things like snake wine...a giant vat of it, not what you'd call attractive. It actually tasted ok but mainly because it clearly had a LOT of alcohol in it.

I'll try really just about anything once but I might draw the line at alcoholic scorpion with attached bits of snake flesh. shudder
