Swannie's Random Stuff

I am assessing the future of this thread in Lit.
My feelings are that the share button and being able to post my things wherever you like is a deal breaker. It has to disappear.
The argument that anyone who is registered could save them and post elsewhere, or copy paste them anyway, so just accept it, is false. The share function is a facilitator, where as manually doing it is liable multipart act and an act of bastardry.
The initial settings of anyone being able to see images, whether logged in or not, was indicative of a lack of planning or consideration. I am glad that was changed within hours, we now need the share function to be removed just as quickly.
Until then, register me as pissed off.

I hope they do change it.. I can't imagine going through the rest of the winter without your posts o_O

I wholeheartedly agree! It's making me uneasy too.

The other thing about clicking share vs saving and posting elsewhere is that it's no longer just a random pic, now it's attached to a profile, which is an even greater violation.

The three connected circles on each post
Thank You.. It has been drawn to my attention now.. And that certainly does open any pics up to being shared by anyone to the entire internet.. Not that it couldn't happen anyways.. But this seems to justify doing it.. And it isn't a proper thing to do!!! And Sally is right.. It would also be attatched to your account when its shared..

Indeed, it is transmitting a profile and any data associated with it. Liable malicious act if you copy paste vs permitted functionality. Profiles being public unless you choose private is also a mistake. It's 2022, you don't hide behind "how were we to know".

I enjoy the people here, but I won't enjoy being shared all over the place.

I wonder if the administrators can justify this practice, but of course this will not satisfy those who wish to maintain their privacy, they should change this at once.

And the decision has been made and implemented to remove the share button from Ampics forum. A sensible outcome

I guess we are back in business again. Here is to the back of that issue:

I like to see the back of this issue, it it delightful.

so glad it has been removed. I now need to go tell someone who was considering leaving the site, it has gone.

edited to say, it is still showing on this reply. Is it some that needs turning off in the profile?

An FYI, Miss S. I have been testing things by logging out and seeing what I can see. I can see this photo when I am not logged in. I think an attached photo becomes visible to everyone if you imbed it in the actual post. If you just leave it as an attachment, it will show a thumbnail version that only members can see and click on.

Hmm that's a change. I guess we are going to have to not embed things any more. That's a shame as I like putting in other pics to have a chat on things about the place. It might not read as well now.

Edit: I just edited the post to get rid of the embedded and just have the attachment. The embedded seems to only exist as a link to the attachment, like before, so I think there is an issue to take up now. If the image was private to registered members only then a non logged in person should only see a broken link icon. Back on the war path.

This is a really good picture, I like how everything turned out. You've always posted great pictures and always look amazing.

Thank you. It took a couple of goes to make sure I was, ahem, closed for business and a couple of bubble refreshes. I have the Samsung phone automated to the word "shutter" and it centre focusses and takes a pic. You just wriggle around and then see what's happened. Not quite as good as the big mirrorless camera and the viewfinder being replicated on the ipad off to the side, but sometimes in volume there is one peach.

These time outs and losing everything is the death in trying to do multi quote replies. I'm not being rude, just failed a few times.

The time outs are very annoying. I am trying to remember to always copy what I have written before attempting to post.
