Manchin tells Dems to 'hit the pause button' on $3.5T spending plan

It makes a lot more sense than the motivation you are attributing to killing the filibuster.

It's hardly a secret that this is the agenda, Pecky. Both have been enthusiastically promoted by Dem leadership.

the Dem leadership that was voted in by the majority of the population. You want a different leadership, then vote in different leadership. Why didn't your party block the possibility of such measures if it's always been the agenda? Did you not cry out for such things?

You really don't understand how the legislative process works and seemingly don't understand how effective leaders get things accomplished.

Democrats have worked together to a common goal. Multiple factions within the party have differing interests to be included in the bill and both Senate and House Democratic leaders have worked with those factions to move the legislation forward. The complexity of that tight rope act has led to a large number of changes and even some changes to approaches that originally weren't considered. And still, the legislation remains on course to be passed by both the House and the Senate in a form that benefits the entire party.

All Democrats have and will have to compromise on the bill. And all have participated in some form of public political posturing to apply political pressure to the process......that's how politics work.

Your distorted view of things is irrelevant...and was my original point - Trumpies can't seem to understand that Democrats always disagree internally ....because they engage in normal political behavior. Republicans stopped doing that decades ago, so maybe that's a foreign concept.

You're post:

It started with Gringrich and has continued with every single Republican leader since then. We can't even get infrastructure that's falling apart fixed and for some reason we're still subsidizing outdated energy and tech.....it's easy when media can just make up shit to demonize the political opposition.

"In the summer of 1998, Clinton worked across the aisle with then-House Speaker Newt Gingrich to enact major infrastructure legislation.
That occurred despite the House pressing an investigation led by special counsel Ken Starr that started with a real estate deal known as Whitewater and ended with the Republican House impeaching Clinton six months after the infrastructure bill was passed. Twenty years later, those infrastructure investments continue to benefit Americans, and the scandal is history."

I'm very well versed on how legislation works, you're not very well versed in history.

Adolf Pelosi has never worked with Trump.

Awesome, 24 years ago, a Democratic leader worked with a Republican Congressman to get something done.

Then Obama worked on an Infrastructure again.

And Biden is working on Infrastructure now.

I'm sensing a pattern.

(By the way, making things bigger doesn't make it more readable, ...bold and maybe color are more effective and less annoying)

No! A republican speaker of the house!! And that speaker worked with both parties, a far cry with what's going on with Adolf Pelosi

Then Obama worked on an Infrastructure again.

The American Recovery Act was signed into law by President Bush not Obama. Obama failed in his handling of the stimulus bill, fake shovel ready jobs.

And Biden is working on Infrastructure now.

And Biden's bill will pass but fail in execution for some the same reasons Obama's failed. 1. The lack of support by pub house members and a failure by Pelosi to work across the isle. 2. Biden's failure to put a lid on EPA and other regulatory roadblocks 3. Expecting infrastructure to curb unemployment 4: Infrastructure spending will stimulate the economy ( economy doesn't need stimulus, all it needs is for that jackass to get out of the way )

I'm sensing a pattern.

Failure!

Pelosi's arrogance could kill this infrastructure bill. Someone needs to tell that idiot she's the speaker of the house not the speaker of the democratic party. Her antics ignores half the fucking country. I don't believe the other $3.5 trillion bill will fly in the senate

Pelosi is negotiating legislation. That's it.
Obama's law wasn't fake.

Your opinion on whether the legislation is warranted or needed has nothing to do with what type of Speaker Pelosi is. The Democrats will pass both bills. And both of them will be victories for Democrats, regardless of what you think of them.

That will change, as the GI Generation dies off, the Boomers retire, and the GenXers and Millennials come into their own.

No, it won't, there's still going to be a lot of people who prefer liberty to authoritarian control freakisms.

Pelosi is dictating not negotiating, it takes two sides to negotiate.

Never opined on needed legislation. No one disputes infrastructure just the pork that’s included in the bill.

Perhaps they both pass and perhaps victories for the socialist progressive party but a disaster for America.

She's negotiating with the factions of her party. Negotiations were already done between parties and agreed upon, and will pass.

You're not going to be happy with bills passed when Democrats have control of Congress. That's not Pelosi's fault.

If the $3.5 trillion bill is not linked to the bipartisan $1 trillion bill, the AOC/Bernie wing will threaten to revolt. If the two bills ARE linked, Manchin, Sinema, and perhaps some vulnerable House Dems are at risk. It’s an extremely tricky situation for Pelosi but she has proven to be very effective at navigating these kinds of waters. I have no idea how this shakes out. Manchin is very unpredictable.

Both bills will pass easily. The $3.5 trillion bill will be dropped to $2.5T.

Exactly, it takes two sides to negotiate. And when was the last time the Republicans negotiated anything in good faith? Pelosi knows that, and she knows what reaching across the aisle will get her.

Compromise is great, when it is a real possibility. But these days it isn't, on any issue.

The last time Republicans negotiated in good faith was the bipartisan infrastructure bill. Why not let the House vote on it, no strings attached?

Neither party controls Congress. Manchin issued that reminder this week.

Nobody really needed a reminder. What he was really saying is that we don't care about Americans as long as we can make you look bad. The longer he can stall the worse it looks on Biden.

Lol. I’m guessing Manchin is not your favorite Democrat. Yet he’s a Democrat. Go figure.

No he's not, but I don't follow politics like its a sport. So I less so have favorites and more so have ones that I believe are true to their word. I think right now what pisses me off is is democrats always fucking cats. It is so hard to get them to just get together. Sure they generally vote together but I've always believed on a lot of issues when some of them abstain on something (during Republican Congresses) that they fully intended to vote with the right but this gives them plausible deniability.

I also kinda hate, not how partisan voters can get. Like I wish Congressmen and Senators could go to their constituents and basically explain. I know I didn't get either much of anything. Yes I am here to serve you, but I am also here to serve the country. You won't like every vote that I make. However look if I lose in November we're getting someone from the opposition who may not even TRY to get. So between keeping your (insert here) and accepting that yes I know I said I'd vote to get this. When I, or any politician makes you a promise what we mean is we will try. We're not lying to you if we fail any more than you're lying to to you if (insert Leader ) refuses to bring it to a vote. Removing me won't change them.

Only a minority of the Baby Boom generation got involved in the hippie counterculture or political activism -- most of them just spent the '60s working or studying.

You'd expect them not to be part of the hippie counter culture. Good or bad the military is REALLY good at brain washing. When an entire generation serves in the military and even in 'real wars'. It gives you a very, very specific perception of things.

The odd thing is that Gen X aside from acting out like teens who had been kept in my their parents didn't come out a little farther left than they did.
