Why isn’t my story in the group?

I wrote “A Glory-ous Interview” for this challenge and put “OnTheJob” in the witness notes, but it isn’t on the list. What happened?

Shit, I don't know. I'm enjoying the stories I'm reading from everyone else. I still it is unfair that the entire list seems to only be in Erotic Couplings.

The link to the list is currently sitting at the top of the New Stories list as well along with all of our individual entries so we have that going for us :D

If your recollection is right, then with nine votes you had 44 total stars voted (9*4.88, rounded) and with 11 votes you have 50 total stars voted (11*4.55, rounded). The two new votes gave you six stars, which could be two threes, a two and a four, or a one and a five.

You didn't necessarily get one-bombed, but starting with a score of 4.88, the single most likely vote would be a five, so the second was probably a one.

Vote #10 vote dropped the score to something like 4.65, then the second one dropped it to 4.55. It's back up in the 4.70s now.

It never even occurs to me that anyone votes a 3.

It's useful to keep in mind that readers outnumber authors by a huge factor, and many readers are completely oblivious to, and unconcerned with, authors' concerns with scores and their implications. They just dole out numbers as they see fit. It stands to reason some of those many readers will give 3s.

Yep. Totally.

Sure, I get that, but it just seems like if I thought a story was only a 3, I would probably just click away at some point and find something better to read. (You don't want me controlling your TV remote)

I suppose for many readers though, it means "I liked the rest of the story but the ending sucked" or "I liked the premise, but you didn't pull it off" or something like that.

For me it means, "I took the time to read your story and it's average. Not great. It doesn't suck. It's average."

You cannot assume other readers behave as you would. You cannot make any assumptions at all. This Site is huge and has gazillions of readers. Some of those readers might think, "I'm going to give most stories 3s. I'll give some 4s, and every once in a while I will give a 5."

We have no idea. But we can't make any assumptions.

Yeah, I'm not making assumptions. I'm just cranky because my story is taking its second swan dive of the day. It gets tiresome.

Is Exhibitionist and Voyeur a trolly category? I haven't posted there before.

Well, it's not a competition, so I just submitted one tonight and asked Laurel to add it to the event page, so as to join the illustrious company :D

"F is for Fail" - in first time, of course. LOL.

No. It's one of the most civilized and open-minded categories in which to publish. Readers in that category seem to be less bothered by stories that embrace kinks that go beyond the category. It's in the middle of the pack when it comes to getting readers, as well.

Is there any way to retroactively add my story to the list? I wrote it specifically for this event and put the correct tag in. So I’m a little bummed to not be on the list.

I'm glad to hear that. Today's sweep made a big difference.

I've done well by it. :)

Don't matter how much I tell myself that I write for my own pleasure, reader voting still has the potential to do my head in, I posted in Mature for the first time and after a few votes was scoring less than 3.2. Was it the wrong category? Was my story much worse than I thought?.
I went into brain/ego protective mode, F.. them!
With a bit of time, more readers and vote sweeping I've crept up to 4.5 and am a happier bunny.

Dunno. Heyall should be able to help. I've got a half finished story for this, but I think I'll hold it back.

Did you put "OnTheJob" in the notes field or as a tag?

I post a lot in Mature and have found it a pretty rewarding place. Scores are generally high and comments favourable. Maybe you just hit a few dreaded one-bombers early. I was lucky that mine struck fairly late when I had enough votes not to make it too drastic.

Mine is a 4.49 with 128 votes, and two positive comments. I have no gauge on how people will receive things. I was worried about this one.

So my story was cruising at a tasty 4.76 with nice readership. I went to bed, woke up to a 4.71 on only 4 new votes. Since folks having been talking 1-bombs, seems like 1-bombs to me.

But I'm not a math guy...
