The Cool Science Stuff Thread

oooh, an extra arm artery. must be to support all that extra blood that needs to be sent to the fingers for the keyboard and mouse use.

This has been around a while, but is nevertheless truly remarkable.

Using a Bose-Einstein Condensate (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bose–Einstein_condensate),
scientists have been able to slow light down from something that takes less than two seconds to go from the Earth to the Moon, to something that would have trouble merging on the freeway and which travels at 38 miles an hour

http://www.news.harvard.edu/gazette/1999/02.18/light.html

they found a way to slow light from about 250,000 miles per second to under 40mph...thus to reverse the method used to do so would speed it up? i wonder in my simple mind what use that could be put to. such as slowing or even reversing the growth of tumors or used to slow dementia or reverse it. i'm not being critical of your post or of science and science has made our world, our lives so much more richer. scientists dig and dig and dig then one day somebody finds something! i just wonder do they dig in the right places for the right things.
