Interesting CDC report on how infections were kept to a minuscule level among over 10,000 who reported to San Antonio for Air Force basic training. Amazing what actual commitment can do.

Beginning March 17, all new recruits were segregated upon arrival for a 2-week arrival quarantine on an area of the base separated from the main cohort of trainees. In addition, all trainees were instructed to maintain a distance of at least 6 feet between one another to ensure social distancing. After the first positive result in a trainee on March 23, the training schedule was shortened from 8.5 to 7 weeks to maximize efficiency while limiting time of possible exposure. On April 6, universal use of cloth face coverings was introduced...

During March 1–April 18, a total of 4,073 incoming trainees joined 6,506 trainees who had already started BMT. Five cases of COVID-19 were diagnosed among incoming recruits, including three cases of transmission within JBSA (cumulative incidence = 47 per 100,000 persons). A combination of administrative controls, increased testing, and quarantine and isolation allowed military training to continue, albeit with 40% reduced numbers, during the first months of the COVID-19 pandemic...

Despite the communal nature of BMT, which has historically been conducive to outbreaks of respiratory pathogens (9), the spread of COVID-19 among trainees in BMT appears to have been low: all cases detected occurred during an initial 14-day arrival quarantine, with no cases identified in the larger training population.

masks and social distancing/quarantines work

Your medical knowledge has been invaluable during this pandemic. Thank you for sharing your insight.

If you have recommendations of what to do with the tens of thousands of protestors who are not practicing social distancing please share.

The Trump administration's testing czar announced Monday that he will be leaving that position in mid-June.

Adm. Brett Giroir told a meeting of the Presidential Advisory Council on HIV/AIDS
that he will be "demobilized" from his role overseeing coronavirus testing at FEMA
in a few weeks and going back to his regular post at the Department of Health and
Human Services.

Giroir was appointed to the testing position in March at a time when the U.S. was
struggling to ramp up testing capacity as coronavirus was spreading.

Scott Becker, CEO of the Association of Public Health Laboratories-

The move by HHS away from that model is understandable, Becker says,
adding that it also makes him "a little bit anxious."

"The testing supplies are still not perfect — the supply chain still isn't fully operational,"
he says. "So I want to make sure that we're still getting the attention that we need."

Law enforcement seizes mask shipments intended to keep protesters safe from COVID-19

Movement for Black Lives (M4BL) /affiliate Black Lives Matter, spent tens of thousands
of dollars producing cloth masks imprinted with "Stop killing Black people,""Defund police"
to provide to protesters around the country, masks that were seized by law enforcement before
they even left the post office.

The Oakland-based organization received a notice from the U.S. Postal Service that its first
four shipments of 500 masks each—bound for Washington, St. Louis, New York City, and
Minneapolis—had been seized.

In March, 1,000 American coronavirus deaths were not important to Trump's election campaign

Took longest time, for publications and media to agree that the US had reached 100,000 deaths

By June 1, 2020 The coronavirus death count had topped 105, 000

Here we are, June 11, 2020. Most agree that America has reached 110,000 coronavirus deaths.

Today, it is over 115,000 coronavirus deaths in the US, give or take a few thousands deaths.

Wall Street is having a conniption fit- Dow drops 1,800+ points as virus cases rise.

Fuck, anyone could see that coming if you just looked at new case counts normalized for population for each state.

and considering most that reopened did so early, before the cdc recommendations of 14 days where case numbers continue to fall. hell, some were still going up.

We're now somewhere over 7.5 million confirmed cases worldwide (obviously just a fraction of the true number), which means at least 1 in every 1000 people on Earth has been infected within 6 months.

U.S. states where at least 1% of the population has been diagnosed with Covid-19 (with one exception, they're contiguous):

New York
New Jersey
Massachusetts
Connecticut
Delaware
Rhode Island
Illinois
Maryland
D.C.

States where between 0.5% and 1% has been diagnosed:

Louisiana
Iowa
Michigan
Nebraska
Virginia
South Dakota
Pennsylvania
Mississippi
Indiana
Minnesota
Georgia

The only states west of the Mississippi or that don't border on the Mississippi are Nebraska and South Dakota, where the major outbreaks have been in their meatpacking plants. Even this far into the pandemic, the fact that the disease was primarily seeded in the U.S. by travelers from Europe/Americans returning from Europe and landing in major Eastern airports and O'Hare is still evident in these numbers.

Dr. Fauci Admits Feds Initially Misled About Face Masks

June16, 2020

Fauci urged Americans to wear masks if they attend President Donald Trump’s rally on
Friday — but also said he had not spoken to the president in two weeks.

The U.S. Surgeon General said in a Feb. 29 tweet-
“Seriously people- STOP BUYING MASKS!"

"They are NOT effective in preventing general public from catching coronavirus,
but if healthcare providers can’t get them to care for sick patients, it puts them
and our communities at risk!”

Umm, no. Trump gave an out--if life is being threatened. You not wearing a mask in public where I am threatens my life, no matter how selfish it is of you, so no change. The pandemic is real. It's you Trumpettes who aren't.

Do go to the rally in Tulsa, though. Don't wear a mask, mingle, get in people's faces when they cough, just keep all of your subsequent contact with Trumpettes like you.

Evidence that the protests have had any impact on new cases ... well, if it's going to show up, it's going to show up pretty late. It's now been 15 days since the incident at Lafayette Park. The trends in Minnesota and New York are positive.

But evidence that there's a relationship between the combo of

early reopening
very hot weather that tends to keep people indoors
a casual attitude towards wearing masks

and growth in cases is a lot stronger.

Where are you getting your Minnesota figures? As of Sunday Minnesota was 71% less positive tests than two weeks before, we were still shrinking.
