What's cookin', good lookin'? Part II

Brunch at home started with a Bloody Mary served with toasted polenta cakes and sauteed kale with lardons topped with a fried egg.

Oh so good!!!

Dinner: homemade pizza - pineapple and all, because it's been too long since I've had it.

They're really nothing fancy or special, just something I once concocted in my head and had to try. They're okay. I don't use any recipe, it always varies a little what I add to it. Here's how I did it the last time.

Grate beet
Add sauted onion and garlic, chili if you want, boiled pearl barley and black beans mix everything together
Add herbs, spices, seasoning, balsamic and such to your taste
Ball 'em up and cook in the oven or on a pan

You can add egg if you need help to keep it all ball shaped. If you add beans, I find it best to squish them up, but not all the way into paste. Use a bit of force when you shape the balls because otherwise they can fall apart pretty easily.

Using sweet potato instead of beet is really good, too. The barley is not a necessity, they work well just with beet/bean or sweet potato/bean versions too.

That sounds really good! Thanks!

I have leftover mashed potatoes. Am going to make a quick chicken gravy with canned chicken to go with. Peas on the side.

Salmon with roasted cauliflower puree and something with parsley, because I have to use it up.

Sweet potato and chickpea curry yesterday, chicken with assorted veggies and rowanberry jelly today, black bean burgers tomorrow.

I made scotch eggs for the first time today. They were so good, I nearly made myself sick on them.

May have to invest in a deep fryer and do that again!

Roasted broccolini, something pesto-esque made with sunflower seeds, spinach and various herbs, and a soft boiled egg.

Corned beef (crockpot version)
Sauteed cabbage with red potatoes
Diced veggie salad

Now I'm miserable but it was oh! so good.

There's a thread on the fet board asking for fantasy self-isolation partners. I said, "Ina Garten."

Tonight, I need comfort food: pancakes ftw.

All restaurants to close here in 48 hours, so tonight; butter chicken, lamb saag, chicken tikka masala and garlic naan's. Perfect, the freezer and pantry are topped up, all set for the next four weeks.

It broke 90 today. It's officially Ice Cream Season. I had vanilla with Reese's smashed up in it. For Seela.

I have a 15 bean soup mix soaking tonight to go in the slow cooker tomorrow morning. Problem is, I only have one corn muffin mix and no cornmeal in the pantry.
I like to make 2 pans of cornbread because leftovers are always better.

Chicken rollatini, stuffed with spinach and ricotta. Pan fried, francese style, with lemon, butter, garlic, and wine.
Roasted rosemary potatoes.
Leftover spinach and tomatoes in a red wine vinaigrette.
Sauv blanc.

I'm sensing a theme.

Baked zander with parsley sauce, pea puree and sauted veggies.

Pie for dessert.

Hooray! You're back! You were missed. :cattail:

P.S. I had to go Google zander.

Back-ish, I guess. I have to remind myself to drop by, so we'll see what happens.

Zander is really good and an easy fish to handle, too!

Yesterday:

-Roasted red onion cups with jerusalem artichoke, gravlax mousse and salmon roe.
-Steak with steamed broccolini and stem cauliflower (? I still don't know what that veggie is called in English even though I have a memory of having discussed that on this very thread before), roasted potatoes and rowanberry jelly.
-Lime curd & cream cheese pie for dessert.

seela, may I book myself in for dinner at your place when lockdown is complete here, you are getting the taste senses going.

I can bring wine and conversation.

Great! [add to shopping list, beer].

There may be a few others that would be interested seela, would there be room at the table to accommodate them?
