The actions of the Captain are a matter of public record and have never been in dispute. He made his actions (and opinions) public. Thst was largely the point.

Modly said he lost confidence in Crozier in part because he did not go to his immediate superior in the traditional chain of command to voice his worries.

Just because a brigade commander says to one of his company commanders *you can talk to me any time* doesn't give that captain the authority to go over the BN commander's head to discuss an issue concerning the battalion. That navy captain exposed the readiness posture of a carrier, had that been in the gulf who knows what could have happened, how bout an Iranian sub taking a crack at it. Mission first!! You still fight that carrier till relief or change of orders is provided. Without strict adherence to the chain of command you have no military, you have no discipline in ranks, breeds contempt and people die. Why he did it is obvious, that's not the point!
