House Impeachment Hearings

So, Sondland is saying his heart was in the right place, but he had to humor the President's obsessions about getting Ukraine to publicly announce "investigating" their own meddling in the 2016 election and publicly humiliate Biden.

Is this the guy that basically paid Donny to become an Ambassador?

Trump knew his corrupt administration was going to be pilloried in 2020. He needed someone....ANYONE...to start an investigation into the presumptive front runner for the Democrats, Joe Biden.

That would allow the rabid Trump fan base (Ish, AJ, Gavager) to bellow 'see? both sides are being "investigated" ! Politics are usual!'

I don't want to be accused of whataboutism, but can you explain how there isn't a double standard. I'm by no means defending the behavior, but Biden definitely, undoubtedly did a quid pro quo. Just give me some reason why what Biden did was OK and what Trump did deserves all this rigamarole. They were both wrong. If Biden was wrong, shouldn't he at least suspend his candidacy? I think that would be getting off easily. He could have been impeached as Vice President.

Oh boy, from Sondland's opening statement, I am very curious how the Republicans are going to spin this one....should be interesting.

Trump = personal gain

Biden = international interest and backing...the prosecutor was corrupt and not investigating corruption, including looking into Burisma

I think it interesting that if, as Biden says, he and Hunter did no wrong then why the worries about Ukraine investigating?

An investigation to dig up dirt on a political opponent when there is no dirt, isn't anything to worry about.

Unless there is dirt.

At which point you begin to wonder why the D's don't want to investigate the Bidens.

I "presumed," "I believe," is just another opinion.

Sorry, this is direct testimony from a witness to what transpired, not second or third hand. He (Sondland), is answering in as much of a generic manner as he can, so as to not be caught in lying to congress. I don't blame him, he was a dumb ass for not taking notes, typical for someone outside government, not understanding the need to accurately document facts.

Sondland is not going to jail for Trump it seems.

Holy shit he sure isn't.
He's taking great pains to inform everyone that it was Trump himself who ordered Sondland to "work with Rudy" about the "Ukraine situation".

And Rudy clearly indicated that holding up badly needed military supply money to hold off Russia was clearly contingent upon Ukraine starting a phony "investigation" of Biden.

Moscow Mitch is going to have his hands full trying to prevent an on-the-record impeachment conviction vote in the Senate. It will show the Senate's priorities for all time: either "Trump First" or "America First".

Extortion and Bribery aren't exactly your legal specialties, are they BarristerTimmeh?

Try and keep up with the class, m'kay?

I guess the first thing I'd point out here is that he wasn't impeached as Vice President, even though none of this was a secret in 2016 — because getting rid of the corrupt prosecutor was a widely agreed upon goal and not controversial. No one else is asking themselves why the same Congress that held 608 different investigations of Benghazi apparently never noticed that Biden was committing obviously impeachable offenses?

Hunter Biden (who admittedly seems like a career loser trading off his surname, a common theme in American history and one we're seeing with the children of the current President) was of interest to absolutely nobody until it became clear that his dad's political career wasn't yet over.

Oh I would not be surprised if Mitch use's this to hold Trump in line....
Delay the Senate trial, and keep Trump in line till after the next election...
After all Mitch did find a way to thwart Obama on his appointment of Merrick Garland to SCOTUS. Pretty sure he can find a way to delay the Impeachment trial.

Yes

Smearing Biden for political purposes, of course. That’s what the investigation was really about no matter how you try to spin it. The aid had been approved by congress to be released and Trump used it as leverage.

Total bullshit. Biden's past criminal behavior doesn't indemnify him against investigation and possible prosecution because he's announced his candidacy for public office. Biden was never a viable threat to Trump in the 2020 election. There is no evidence, aside from superstition, the bumbling clown would be a the Democrat nominee. At present there isn't a Democrat candidate who presents a threat to Trump's reelection, hence the reason for this sham of an impeachment hearing, the purpose of which isn't to remove the President from office but to make him un-electable in 2020.

The foreign aid law requires investigation and certification that tax payer money will not be used for corrupt activities. The President is simply seeing the laws are faithfully executed.

It's convenient in this situation for Sondland that he claims he did not take notes.

He is now making the distinction between Burisma and the Bidens, claiming that he did not know that Trump was talking about the Bidens when he had previously asked for an investigation into Burisma. Holmes says otherwise about Sondland.

I hope they stick it to Sondland about his previous perjury (his first deposition), and perhaps even catch him in a new case of perjury. This guy is another swamp monster, but what do you expect in a Trump administration. Not having notes allows him to keep saying, "I honestly don't remember." He's a slimeball.
