There are quite a few similarities in the way rap and poetry are written including iambic pentameter, styles such as free verse and rhyming couplets down to simple things like the use of metaphors. On top of the rap you have to be aware of the musical aspects of rap, how many bars needed, drops, hooks etc.And just as there as many different types of poems out there there are just as many rap genres. Already posted a fun and educational video on the 27 styles of rap by Mac Lethal.

This one is an adorable catchy rap about a kitten by Aesop Rock. Nothing racist or misogynistic at all. Atmosphere is an excellent duo that have fun doing their shit without being too offensive. Mocha Only is cool as well.
