I flew out of DFW back in 1969. I don’t remember anything about the airport. I do remember the ride to it.

I don't believe DFW (the airport, that is) existed until the early '70s. I can assert the ride to it is indeed memorable, though.

I don't actually mind it as airports go, unless American is indulging in their fine holiday tradition of fucking with their customers.

Used to do road rallies a long time ago. A great way to spend an evening.

That accounts for your fondness for the Subaru. Ideal car for that. Light, powerful, AWD, and that boxer motor keeps your center of gravity low.

A Porsche would be more fun setting up a hairpin drift with that heavy back-end, but the Subaru would be quicker.

Well. I’m glad I didn’t take the bet that I wouldn’t wind up at work over the next two weeks.

Dude, we rallied a Saab 96. When we burned up the 850 two-stroke, we upgraded the engine to a 1500 V4 four-stroke and a 4sp tranny. Had Lockheed disks on all four wheels so we could stop. It was a fucking fun little car.

Rallies were mostly done on the road at legal speeds, but the special sections where we did not have a legal speed limit were the most fun. The Saab was so light we could bash through most anything, and it was cheap enough to fix if there was a problem. The guys running 'nice' cars never did well in the special sections.

That sounds really fun.

There's a guy that owns a website about Hondas but he moved on to a WRX STI. Raceday, he gets in a beater Dodge Neon and does SCCA Solo1 in parking lots.

Subarus and Saabs (900 series) are two of my favourite cars. Subarus (Impreza WRX, not the SUV shite) are great if you want something good on gas, that's somewhat environmentally friendly (pzev) and doesn't get stuck in the snow.
