There's a pretty scary review in the latest New Yorker magazine of a book about the last day of the war. It was one of the bloodiest days, because officers on both sides were ordering last-minute battles, even though they knew that the armistice had been signed. Crazy end to a crazy war.
The US's General Pershing was one of those who wanted the US troops to fight to the last minute to gain ground before the armistice took effect at 11 am. There were 3,000 US casualties on November 11.
The last British UK soldier was killed at 9.30 am. The last American? 10.58 am.

Yep, Pershing knew that the armistice had been signed but he still attacked causing additional US casualties.
