Right, actually. Which is why there's an objective middle ground here not being reached by many. The claims of assault can be weaponized and sometimes have been both false and weaponized (and knee jerk accepted just because they were voiced). So there are no assumptions to be made that it's all true just because an accusation has been made.

The issue here is what do the Republicans have to hide to not having this investigated? I believe that if it was investigated and they didn't come up with new witnesses supporting the accusation (or bringing new ones) or Mark Judge didn't change his story--and stood by his story under oath (with then the press let loose to uncover counter facts)--this issue with Kavanaugh would conclude in stalemate. But I think Kavanaugh should be deep sixed for documented lies in earlier congressional testimony and the Republicans in Congress would be best served by forcing Trump to take someone off the original list, who would also be Conservative, just not tied to Trump's survival. It's long past time for the Republicans in Congress to separate themselves a bit from Trump--for their own survival.

If Cavanaugh does not get on the Supreme Court and the Democrats regain the Senate nobody gets on the Supreme Court. Which, as I'm sure you must realize, is the entire point of this 11th Hour hit.

Not only do the Republicans like Kavanagh for all of the right reasons, since it's Kavenaugh or Nothing they are going to push it through whether you like it or not and they in fact should do exactly that political costs be damned.
