This is sort of the flip side of what Rightguard is trying to do here. If Kavanaugh hasn't personally objected, it can't be assumed that he does object. What I've heard several times on CNN today is that he's in the White House doing murder boards on exactly that--testifying to the assault charge. It's sort of the same thing as claiming that any poster supports Ellison by not condemning Ellison on a thread about Kavanaugh.

Let's wait to say he objects to testifying when he actually does.

Not really. He wants to be confirmed as easily as possible and minimize the fallout. What would be the public's reaction if he went after Ford, no matter whether or not the incident happened? Consider reality.

Look, he lied to Congress on the testimony at the hearings for the job he has now and it can be found in the official documentation. That should be enough to ditch him, but obviously the Republicans in Congress aren't going to show any integrity on this. The Ford angle helps the Democrats in November, but that's going to be all the satisfaction anyone, including Ford, is going to get out of the sexual assault angle unless/until someone else comes forward in the next couple of days.

He could. Let's back up to where this started, though. Let's not be moving the goal posts. The phrase you wrote that I called you on was "or at least not objecting to it." I asked for a citation that he was objecting to an investigation. I haven't seen a citation yet. Is he personally objecting to an investigation? Either no or yes. No need to move the goal posts on that question. I don't think he's objected to an investigation--because he doesn't have to at this point. There's no indication that he's being consulted on the question. Others are carrying the water bucket. Why wouldn't he let them?

You're also moving the goal posts on the "going after her" issue. You were talking about him suing her for libel. That's not the same thing in any sense as agreeing "with her on" having "an independent investigation." If he sued her for libel that absolutely would be "going after her."

Can't really discuss the issue if you keep changing the goal posts of what the discussion is.

The most recent demand, via her lawyer, is that the FBI thoroughly investigate the allegation or she won't testify. First of all the FBI has no authority to investigate.

The FBI performs background checks on people nominated to the supreme court, among many other appointees.

Cite the statute that says they have no authority to reopen a BC check when new information comes to light.

Throw in the fact that the only other named witness flatly states, "it never happened."

She doesn't get to put conditions on the committee process, make demands for treatment nobody else would get if they walked into a police station and made a criminal complaint.
