What's cookin', good lookin'? Part II

I had made a big pot of turkey chili / days ago. Tonight I just blopped some on tortilla chips with cheese and heated up.
Beer.
Low key and really good.

And likely it was infinitely better than the upended bag of tortilla chips dusted with cheap sadness chili and shredded Velveeta for which I had to pay a full $20 in Jackson Hole recently.

Don’t go to chains. Only mom and pops.

I avoid chains at all costs. This was a resort restaurant. You’re paying for the view, to be sure. I understand having to kick in a few extra coins for the view, but I abhor bad food even at ordinary prices. At a resort it’s unconscionable.

Just salads. Almost always salads for the past few weeks. It's too hot to cook (or sleep) as very few houses here have AC. The temps indoors are hovering around 29C/85F, so I try to not add to it any more than absolutely necessary.

Watermelon, feta, mint, cilantro, red onion and lime.
Chickpeas marinated in tomato, chili, garlic, herbs and spices with spinach.
Goats cheese, strawberries, radish, salad mix and balsamic syrup.
Puy lentils, avocado, grape tomatoes and parsley.

Today I'm going to have peas and beets with smoked salmon. And espresso granita with vanilla ice cream for dessert.

*drools*

When are you inviting us over?

Dude, I've invited you over. You said I live too far (I paraphrase). But hey, Trump made it here, you can too. :D

I'm working on building a teleport, so when that's done, no more excuses!

Lunch is served!

Some more of my fancy "hmm, let's open the fridge and dump everything on the plate" cooking. Or rather not even cooking, because it's a salad.

Cold smoked salmon, blueberries and radish
. And some purple cabbage among the bits and pieces of different kinds of lettuce leaves. Sounds weird, but it was oddly tasty.

Special “house blend” curry. :D

I can’t have a lot of the stuff in traditional curries so I made my own. Lots of ginger and spices I can eat. It turned out pretty good and didn’t kill my stomach. I look forward to tweaking it until it’s just right.

Also, my coworkers all tried to give me helpful suggestions for gluten free brands and the stores I can find them. It was really nice. :) (this belong in the happy thread but I’m lazy and only want to make one post.)

New York strip, sautéed brussels sprouts, peppers and onions, and steamed broccoli

Mmmmmmmm

Very obviously not cooked by me.

Everything was really tasty, but the carpaccio seemed a bit out of place on the menu. The dessert needed something crunchy to add a little texture to it, but the flavors were spot on. My favorite dish was the salmon, which was cooked to absolute perfection. I'm generally not a huge fan of dill in large quantities, but it all worked so well there.

It was a lovely, lovely meal!

Today it's back to the real world, and dinner will be cauliflower and cheddar balls with some salad.

I found a mushroom today! I had already given up hope finding any mushrooms this year, because it's been so dry, but today I found a beautiful porcini. Just that one, but luckily it was pretty sizable and perfectly clean.

So I had steak with green beans and porcini. I also added some dried black trumpets I picked last year on the pan with the porchini. It was so good and I'm so happy now.

Some Chateuneuf du Pape 2014 to go with it. Spot on!
