Broaden My Horizons Please... Musically

My list just played Glenn Miller's Running Wild but I'm not sure if you like Big Band.

Eh, tired of Aerosmith and was never a huge fan of theirs anyway. Thank you though.

if you've never watched the IT crowd you should really get on that.

eta: if only to give some of those bits some context.

I just watched about 15 minutes of them on youtube. They're kinda odd.

Ladri Di Biciclette (Story Song) --- Amanda Homi

Upbeat, silly, bright, sorta fun. I can't say good or bad. Different is all. The only thing I can recall to compare it to is the roller skate and key thing from way back when.

Interesting selection.

Not available video and I couldn't find it. Don't think it's available on Amazon anyway.

That was odd. I don't think I'd want to be a ballerina.

Interesting but not quite my speed. Thank you though.

Not big on guitar alone. Interesting, but not for me. Thank you anyway.

Something a bit different. I have seen this woman perform in Seoul (South Korea) and Shanghai (China) You have to be there to see this tiny woman (she always wears 6" heels) with a big voice just grab an audience.

First song is in Mandarin and as you can tell from the audience it is a major tear jerker.

Second is in English and too well known to need further comment.

She is essentially an Asian phenomenon because whilst she comes from Malaysia she can speak 7 languages fluently (3 Chinese, Korean, Bahasa Indonesia, Arabic, and English) and has recorded in 20 +

I have honestly never heard of her. She's got a set of pipes on her. I think I'll have to look into her more.

That's a bit of a wacky song.

Not really my thing, thank you anyway.

I do and have a healthy selection of it already. :)

Silence is golden.

Uncle Lucius - They have just recently disbanded and gone their separate ways ,but they have put out some of the greatest music never heard by most.

I like that. I think I'm going to grab that.

Aretha. Better version than the first one you posted, but I have other stuff of hers already.

I like them. I am not a fan of recordings like that - studio stuff. But they do link to the music on Amazon for sale. I bookmarked it for looking at later. Thank you. :)

For some reason I feel like I'm at a party in the 60s.

if you have netflix you can more than clips of the IT crowd. it's a classic. made by the same guy who did father ted which is also insane and fucking hilarious. sadly, it's on britbox and i don't have that.

also, i like the absurdity. it makes me happy.

It's time for an alteration in my musical universe. I'm rebuilding my car stick this weekend. I want upbeat music - nothing maudlin and nothing with a freakin' broken heart.

I am a fan of classic rock, 80s alternative Britpop, some pop (not too bubblegummy), old timey music from the 40s and 50s, jazz, some classic. I'm not a particular fan of harsh sounding music - harder rock, punk etc. For country, it depends.

I don't keep track of the newest and latest so I really don't know all what is out there. I'd love to get some suggestions. I'll take a listen to everything... even if it's not my normal, I'll at least give it a try.

Help?

Joe Satriani FLYING IN A BLUE DREAM
Gary Hoey ENDLESS SUMMER PART 2 SOUNDTRACK

The Smashing Pumpkins, largely known as a dour grunge-adjacent act, quietly released the surprisingly upbeat "Oceania" six or seven years ago.

Honestly, the album is better than it has any right to be, given the work he's put out under that name in the surrounding decade. I return to it fairly often.

Of particular interest, given the interest in upbeat, not guitar driven music, are 'One diamond, one heart,' 'Pinwheels,' and 'The chimera.'

David Bowie's pentultimage album was really solid, too. 'The next day.' The song 'The Stars Are Out Tonight' is worth a listen, as is 'Dirty Boys.'

In A Crisis

"I rode my bicycle by her house
She was gardening in the dark
Singing to the green beans and the beets
She was wearing her high heels
Chopping the high weeds, dealing out life and death
And I wrote down every single thing she said

And she said, the spirits of the earth
Are so hungry for justice, they cry
And the spirits of the sky
Are with us tonight and they cry

In a crisis we cut away
What we don't need anymore
In the good times we fight our way
We fight our way inside"

Dear jaF0,

Always a pleasure to hear an old favorite.
