Sex at Dawn, a book by Cacilda Jethá and Christopher Ryan, is a great read on this subject!

One theme of the book is that it is human nature, a primal need for most men and women, to have this desire.

Sex at the dawn of time up until the Victorian age (for some cultures, not all).

A great read for those who fantasize about gangbangs, as I do, or even for those who don't.

Men are more naturally designed to recover and find someone else later, I think. It's part of our evolutionary blueprint, intended to reduce the chances of being with the same woman constantly. Women, on the other hand, are more designed to be able to take on more than one man at any given setting, so as to allow multiple sources of sperm to compete for the chance of impregnating her. That's my impression of human sexual response in terms of the male refractory period and the woman's craving for repeated penetration.
