Surely there must be something else on this seeking thread worthy of your attention, some other story worth reading to occupy your time, because no one should have to carry the weight of this knowledge of what happened to these otherwise reputable and likeable orphans in boarding school. To make matters worse, I’ve been instructed to convey to you, the whole truth, without omission, of what unspeakable horrors and injustices the Baudelaire orphans were forced to endure.

No, this isn’t the story you might have seen on film or read about in a paperback novel found in the young adult section, or even the more extensive account of events available via subscription streaming services, as those accounts were doctored—a word which here means: altered to make palatable to audiences of all ages.

Though there is no excuse for seeking out, or even following-up on the sort of grim, sick and regrettable events that unfolded within that school, I have been tasked with documenting it—if only so that it may stand as warning to others, that true evil does exist in the world and even kind, intelligent young orphans can be victims many times over if not properly looked after.

This Sequence of Unwelcome Encounters, like most misfortunes that befell the Baudelaire Orphans, was the brain child of notorious villain and thoroughly untalented actor—one Count Olaf.

It would be and was awful enough that these Unwelcome Encounters transpired in the lives of the Baudelaire Orphans, but worse still, is the grim fact that their innate kindness and general affability caused the two surviving Quagmire Triplets to be similarly ensnared—a word which here means: inextricably caught up in and forced to share the same fate.

Even one as dastardly and thoroughly rotten to the core as Count Olaf cannot pull off a caper as morally debauched and complex as this without help. Aside from his almost as wicked and equally untalented theater troupe, Olaf was able to recruit and corrupt another young lady from Prufrock Preparatory Academy who had a thing against orphans and a deep-seeded, subconscious yearning for the attention of older males.

((OOC: So I really like the Netflix remake of Series of Unfortunate Events and have become absolutely enamored with Snicket’s self-deprecating narration style. As often happens, though, with long, Hollywood produced series, the actors cast to play children have mostly grown up to inspire me with sexual urges. Fortune

There is ample room for collaboration in this story idea. It starts with a person’s fortune being told by a stranger. Either the person seeks out a fortune teller or the stranger just approaches them out of the blue. The fortune is very close to the person's deepest desires, but considering their present circumstances it seems crazily far-fetched... until the person starts to notice the same stranger popping up here and there in his or her life as pieces fall into place and the once unthinkable fortune gradually seems to be obtainable.

Of course, that would be a perfect place to make it known that there's always a price to pay for good fortune.

I'd prefer that the characters be of opposite sexes. I'd prefer a setting in the present day. I see the story as being much, much more about relationship power and give and take than fortune telling. If this is interesting and you like to write sexually provocative prose, please PM.

I've had a thread idea rolling around in my head for the past week, and I am curious if anybody would be interested in it.

The thread idea I have in mind is about a fallen angel that has been exiled from the heavens because of his previous involvement in events that might have led to the apocalypse. He didn't cause the events, but rather intervened on behalf of the mortal world, who were being tested by the gods. They were only to survive annihilation if they were able to put their racial differences and disputes aside and unite against the forces that threatened their world. When things seemed at their most dire, though, my character, an angel descended from the heavens to help the mortals. While he didn't save the world on his own, his presence and assistance gave the mortals the boost that they needed to overcome their adversaries and survive.

My character expected to be destroyed for his actions, but was instead banished to the world that he had saved. His wings were stripped from him, but he was allowed to keep the majority of his other abilities, including his immortality. It wasn't until he fell in love for the first time that my character realized the full extent of the punishment. He was happy at first, but was naturally forced to watch the woman he loved grow old and die while he remained forever young.

Cut forward 1,000 years. The gods are ready to test the mortals once more.

The exact nature of the evil that is going to assault the world is totally open for discussion.

What I am looking for is a strong, smart, and talented female writer to play the role of one of the champions of the mortal world.
