Most "illegals" are actually people who've come into the country via a legal route, a visa say, and just simply don't go home.

Two reasons. One, the proximity of Mexico to the U.S. It's just simply easier to do it wall or no wall. Two, just because they come through Mexico doesn't mean their Mexican.

Only about half of those in the U.S. who are undocumented are Mexican.

If you want to talk about immigration policy that'd be nice. We can start with your man Reagan giving amnesty to undocumented people in 1986.

Contrary to what those born in the US think, many Legal immigrants ('white, yellow, brown, black') are against ilegal imigration.

First of all, they came across enough prejudice as it is, and they don't want on top of that the stigma of 'maybe they are ilegals', just because they speak with an accent.

Secondly, following the Legal path of immigration isn't as sweet and breezy as some think. It comes with lots of pain and sacrifices, and they don't think it's fair that some people shortcuited that path or diminish the chances of other potential immigrants.

Do you even know how many other "brown" people were denied work visas or job interviews because they come from 'High risk countries'?

This will make me unpopullar because I read a bit of anti-Indian sentiment among three or so GB liberals, but I'll say it.

My understanding is that a lot of Indians were denied these sort of visas if they couldn't show enough ties (family, property, good jobs) to their country. I'm not judging the Immigration Department, they probably had their own experiences and they consider India a 'high risk' of visa overstayers country.

Indians aren't white either.

I can't blame Americans who lobby for illegals (the majority of whom are South American) because it's natural to care more about your neighbours than for overseas people.

But to reduce this debate to "racists who hate brown people" versus non-racists is disingenuous.

Meanwhile in reality, our military has TWO entire organizations whose sole purpose is to build things - the U.S. Navy's Construction Battalions (Seabees) and the Army Corp of Engineers. They have the equipment, skills, knowledge, mobility and capabilities, AND FUNDING to build the wall.

They built the Alaskan Highway so large non-military projects aren't beyond their mandate.

But no one even considered that maybe that's what Trump was thinking. Could it be that men of limited intelligence and experience are the ones who are laughing and pointing fingers over a concept they have no idea about?

What's amusing about that idea is the fact that local contractors would be shut out of participation. Blue states like CA and NM would feel some pressure.

Every system needs a membrane. It's too bad our politicians can't uphold the laws that constitute our metaphorical membrane. They've been given ample time to sort it out, since Reagan.
So, a material membrane it is!

Plus, our Earth Sciences are lagging behind. I think a national wall project would help rally interest in Earth Sciences. We have a military, we can't dissolve them and I'm tired of the USA meddling in other countries, lets build a wall!

We need to get our best minds out of outer space and back on earth, we need our military to stop meddling abroad. It's time to come home. We'll get back to exploring later.

Imagine being a South American Legal immigrant who jumped through all sorts of requirements and hoops in order to get a job in the US. How would you feel if you came across Right wingers or other people who looked at you in a certain way, because they wondered whether you sneaked in through the back door? Just because your skin tone is darker and you speak with an accent.

No, I haven't spoken with many Legal South American immigrants, but I bet that not all are keen on Ilegal immigration because of that.

The guards nearby are squirrels. Some may even have graduated third grade, unlike posters here.

Migrants: It ain't the poorest who come to USA. Smuggling is a huge global enterprise, with coyotes / snakeheads netting in the range of US$30 billion. You hate private enterprise? The smuggled pay a shitload to get here. Would it be better for business just to charge very high intake fees? That would be like nationalizing the smugglers. Think outside the box, hey?

I know very well that many are driven by racism, I'm not contesting it.
But why tf are you welling at ME?. I'm not a Right Winger.
I was just trying to add a third perspective to the "Illegals are scum" versus "opponents of illegal immigration are racist scum" that one typically hears in these forums.


Many Legal immigrants (non-white ones included) aren't keen on illegal immigration.

They have a sense of pride about having achieved things through their own efforts, not through handouts and by being law abiding citizens.
They don't want to be confused with illegals and treated as lesser than those born in the US:
either as suspicious or dubious (Right wingers) or in a patronizing manner like charity cases (Left wingers).

Plus each green card for an illegal means one less green card for another foreigner who followed the law.
 
Simple solution: chip everybody on US territory. Native or foreign, resident or visitor or newborn, everyone gets implanted and can be readily scanned to determine their legal status. Visa expired? Outa here with you! Make the chips sensors that detect dangerous biochemistry, like psychos, so assholes er I mean subjects liable to violence can be medicated. All watched over by careful and honest gov't monitors, right?

ObTopic -- I predict: No wall. No war with Mexico. But no fresh strawberries.
