33 years may be the life expectancy after the fall. If they had not disobeyed God they could have lived in peace in the garden forever. 930 years is great, but when you put it against forever.......not so fantastic.
Just hang around until the universe collapses in entropic heat death, sounds lovely.

OR fresh food.....no work......pure love......a woman made specifically for you......no disease ....death...no body decay.......no evil......direct fellowship with loving God. I would give it a shot.;).

I can't imagine those physical things are in Heaven. Maybe since nobody knows but doesn't seem right. Works for The Good Place but I would think the reality is more about the soul and mind and less about any physical pleasures.

Perpetual orgasm? Might be nice, but sometime somebody's going to need to wash things up.

Phrodeau and I were talking about Adam and Eve before the fall not heaven. I like your thoughts about heaven!:rose:

Stand Up For Judas

(Leon Rosselson)

Chorus:
So stand up, stand up for Judas and the cause that Judas served
It was Jesus who betrayed the poor with his word

The Romans were the masters when Jesus walked the land
In Judea and in Galilee they ruled with an iron hand
And the poor were sick with hunger and the rich were clothed in splendour
And the rebels whipped and crucified hung rotting as a warning
And Jesus knew the answer
Said, Give to Caesar what is Caesar's, said, Love your enemies
But Judas was a Zealot and he wanted to be free
Resist, he said, The Romans' tyranny

Jesus was a conjuror, miracles were his game
And he fed the hungry thousands and they glorified his name
He cured the lame and the lepers, he calmed the wind and the weather
And the wretched flocked to touch him so their troubles would be taken
And Jesus knew the answer
All you who labour, all you who suffer only believe in me
But Judas sought a world where no one starved or begged for bread
The poor are always with us, Jesus said

Now Jesus brought division where none had been before
Not the slaves against their masters but the poor against the poor
Set son to rise up against father, and brother to fight against brother
For he that is not with me is against me, was his teaching
Said Jesus, I am the answer
You unbelievers shall burn forever, shall die in your sins
Not sheep and goats, said Judas, But together we may dare
Shake off the chains of misery we share

Jesus stood upon the mountain with a distance in his eyes
I am the way, the life, he cried, The light that never dies
So renounce all earthly treasures and pray to your heavenly father
And he pacified the hopeless with the hope of life eternal
Said Jesus, I am the answer
And you who hunger only remember your reward's in Heaven
So Jesus preached the other world but Judas wanted this
And he betrayed his master with a kiss

By sword and gun and crucifix Christ's gospel has been spread
And 2.000 cruel years have shown the way that Jesus led
The heretics burned and tortured, and the butchering, bloody crusaders
The bombs and rockets sanctified that rain down death from heaven
They followed Jesus, they knew the answer
All non-believers must be believers or else be broken
So put no trust in Saviours, Judas said, For everyone
Must be to his or her own self - a sun

"Ruwach" means "breath"."Pneuma" means "breath".Ditto.

The Bible is clearly referring to the essence of man. Look at the context of the word. Wind is an analogy of a Spirit.

Adam did die. Not the second he ate, but he did die. He would not have without that dang apple.

You are right he did gain great knowledge, but is the knowledge of evil all it is cracked up to be? My opinion is NOT!

Noted, but if one adopts the literalist approach of xfrodo ther's no getting away from the fact that in the Fall story, the serpent was the truth sayer and God was the liar.

Now I know that you are not a literalist but some folks are, and need to start thinking.

The serpent’s deception in the Garden had included a grain of truth. Satan told Eve, “God knows that when you eat from it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil” (Genesis 3:5). What the serpent did not say was that knowing evil would damage Adam and Eve’s relationship with God. Half-truths can be as deceptive as full-blown lies.

Some say the death was a spiritual death because of their separation from God. Adam and Eve lost eternal life, were expelled from the Garden of Eden, and eventually experienced physical death. Sounds like they got what God said they would.

A spiritual death followed by a physical death? What's left after that?

According to the Bible, Adam lived for 930 years. If he hadn't eaten the apple, he might have lived to be fifty. Life expectancy at the time was about 33 years.

If Adama hadn't eaten the fruit, he would still be alive today and on into eternity. Death entered the world because of Adam's sin. Life expectancy at that time was about infinity years.

You are missing the fundamental point TH. A biblical literalist like xfrodo does not treat the story allegorically as you have, he claims it is literally true; and as you have pointed out your interpretation is entirely at odds with literalism.

My conclusion is that Xfrodos view is barking mad but in addition you are too ready to find excuses for your "comfortable " conclusions. The original God of the Old Testament - Yaweh Saboath was an unrelenting nasty sod. He went through a lot of changes before he became Mr Nice Guy. Originally he was a war god a protector of the Israelites. The Elijah story around 900 BC turned him ito a fertility god , controlling the weather and thus replacing Baal. Later the stories of Hosea and Amos turned him into firstly a god of love and secondly a god of Justice.

God was a creation of the Jewish mind and took a thousand years and more to fully form. The greatest irony is that the God concept evolved, just like the environment which produced him.

I don't know where you are getting me saying my beliefs are at odds with literalism?

At the conclusion of the day the Bible is a book. I believe it's the inspired word of God. Looking at the scriptures anybody can have their own interpretation. When I was in school I had to read a Catcher in the Rye. Oh, did I hate that book. I had to give my opinion of it and I wrote mine completely about how I hated, and why I hated the thing. Luckily I got an okay grade, but I got a note from the teacher telling me I was wrong.

God is love to me, and therefore I see a balancing act between God's love for us vs his willingness to let us have free choice. In your example above God didn't change, the people's perceptions of Him changed. That's on us not on Him. To me the Bible is the message that God wanted us to have. You can't pick out places in the Bible and not read the whole thing till the end.

If you believe that the Bible is the inspired word of God, then you should believe what it actually says.

If you believe that the Bible is the inspired word of God, then you should believe what it actually says.

So why do you keep on pontificating it says what it doesn't? Why do you deem yourself its master instead of its total slave? Why do you continue to speak for it, instead of simply quoting it directly?

I do believe what it says. Care to give me any times I haven't? I am simply saying that in looking at the bible, people can come from different perspectives. Two people can look at the same verse and see it different. I did not see the bible the same way Coldiesal does. That is all.

Because in plain language it does say it. Jesus said "I am the Way, the Truth and the Life, no man comes to the Father except through me". It cannot be interpreted any way other than that He is clearly saying that He is the only way to the Father.

How else could you possible interpret it.

Sure sounds like an important statement. Why isn't it in any of the other Gospels?

It's all over the Bible that Jesus is the only way:

Ac 4:12 Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.

1Jo 5:12 He that hath the Son hath life; and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life.

Joh 10:1 ¶ Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that entereth not by the door into the sheepfold, but climbeth up some other way, the same is a thief and a robber.
(KJV)

Ro 10:9 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.

Joh 10:9 I am the door: by me if any man enter in, he shall be saved, and shall go in and out, and find pasture.

Ga 1:8 But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed.

Because in plain language it does say it.

:D You are one dumb son of a Joel, aren't you. [note intentional lack of a question mark]

No, Adam really was perfect until he sinned.
No, Adam really was perfect until he sinned.
Adam was perfect before he sinned.
You really STILL don't get it? I said he was perfect BEFORE he sinned.
Adam is now perfect up there because he has been regenerated spiritually, just as Christians are regenerated spiritually.

Fuck your wannabe "plain language" and "I said", swindler - just provide Bible verse cites to back your blasphemous bullshit up...

...like this:

Do not add to His words
Or He will reprove you, and you will be proved a liar.

Proverbs 30:5-6 (NASB)

Matthew, Mark and Luke don't mention it. There are no Old Testament prophecies about it either.
