High School Shooting In Florida

Let's see, on top of that, I saw a kid I knew get murdered for walking down the street and someone thinking he was in a gang (he wasn't). Have seen multiple stabbings, including one of a close friend of mine. I have witnessed a lot more violence as a teen than any of the kids in that high school have seen, guaranteed. It was a weekly occurrence when I was growing up.

And you've also shot at people how many times? And used your weapons to defend how many people how many times? Damn! You're just a...

widdle dickless daily mogadishu!

What constitutes an arsenal? Give me a number. Is there a threshold that differentiates a small arsenal from a medium arsenal versus a huge arsenal? The fact remains that no matter how huge my arsenal is, I'm still stuck with only being able to shoot one at a time.

I knew an old gentleman that owned hundreds of guns, modern and antique. He owned an example of every gun that Colt ever manufactured save one, a 9 inch Colt Paterson. The most recent 9" Paterson that sold at auction went for $977,500. Should the government have taken all of his guns away over a certain number? Which guns? Just all of the Colt revolving rifles? Or maybe all of his Winchester Model 94 commemoratives.

I'm out of my depth regarding guns, but my common sense tells me:
Ok, you want a gun for self-defense, especially if you live on an isolated farm or in a dangerous city? Sweet. You can buy one or two, provided you pass a very thorough background check.
But if you want to collect guns, you need to be exposed to a lot more scrutiny than the average gun owner, and to give an account of your weapons and what you were doing with them, at regular intervals.
The safety of those around you trumps your roghts as a gun owner.

And what about households with kids?
Someone told me that they decided not to let their child play at their friend's house, because the kid had ADHD, and his older brother some problems with amger.
Which wasn't a problem until they saw a gun lying on the couch. The parents had lots of guns because they enjoyed target practice; they probably forgot it there.

I also read a case in the newspaper a while back, about some 9 years old kid who found his parent's gun in the closet and blew his brains put by mistake.
Or about that mother who lost her temper and in a fit of rage shot both her daughters. No, she didn't have a history of mental illness.

One or two huh? That's not common sense, it's just dumb.

This may sound crass, well it will sound crass, but I DON'T CARE! I'm not responsible for the stupidity, or temporary insanity, of others.

Let me ask you something. How come whenever a cop shoots someone, it's the cops fault, but when some other idio0t shoots someone, it's the 'guns' fault?

Did you read the story of Susan Smith, the mother who drove her car into the lake with her two kids in the back in car seats, then lied about a black man hijacking her car? Yea, let's take away all the cars so mothers can't drown their children... Did you know that Jerry Sandusky at Penn State molested 52 kids? Let's completely demolish football! Yea, on that basis of yet another 'story' of somebody losing it and injuring or killing children, and we should just shit can the Constitution and .... do what?

Let's give all you MOFO's nitrogen bombs too!

Bombs don't kill people, people do.

Can any of you form a reply that isn't a strawman?

I see your point, but remember, cars have more benefits than cons. Cars make it much easier to get around in our modern world.

Football is an enjoyable sport. All occupations, especially those with a direct impact with children have the potential to harbor molesters. Should we ban teachers, coaches, and social workers? No, their benefits outweigh the cons.

Gun violence has more cons than benefits. This is plain old-fashioned risk-benefit analysis.

So you haven't been in a mass shooting incident in high school, just like I thought.

I'm sorry, but none of the things you described come close to what's in that video. If you had been in Viet Nam, maybe.

So you had a tough life and you "were threatened" and "saw" violence.

Not remotely the same thing as sitting there in math class and having five or four or ten classmates' brains blown out all over your cheerleader uniform.

You're full of shit.

But let's give you the benefit of the doubt and say your experiences were equally as traumatic to you.

What kind of sick fuck are you that when presented with the "same thing" right in front of your eyes, your response is to say "Stop whining. Get used to it."

Actually I am quite healthy and stable. I have never committed an act of violence towards a partner, never been abusive towards anyone, and I volunteer regularly with the underprivileged, and with a couple of other agencies throughout the area.

Considering how I grew up, and how many of the people I grew up with are dead or in jail, I'd say I did very well for myself, and I'm definitely a lot more stable than many of the folks on here.

Can you say that same?

Your class privilege is showing, by the way.

So tell me, what's it like to be a child these days?

You have it all figured out.

Tell me your experience.

You don't act it here...I can only judge you by your comments. Sorry you don't rate better.

You think you know so much...yet you are so wrong about...well everything so far.

I have been watching some of the "town hall"...pretty fucking funny watching the republicans look at each other and say...we are in some deep shit...

You're putting your thumb on the scales. If the benefit is weighed against the loss of life to an assailant, there is no value greater than that of having a gun to protect yourself. It's a benefit far greater than any court of law, or any airbag in your car. Thanks to the benefits derived from carrying a gun, you get to go on living. Most of us would say that's an immeasurable benefit.

The value of seen and unseen but suspected guns that are never used is large. Criminal surveys done by the FBI regularly reveal that criminals report that they have changed their plans on a crime when they became aware or suspected that the victim was armed. Some of those near-victims have some idea that their gun deterred the criminal and some do not. Criminals report that the presence of a gun on a potential victim is their number one deterrent.

Like any sane person with a shred of empathy, I want these shootings to stop.

I don't believe people standing up and demanding change are "politicizing" it. The only person I saw "politicizing" it was the fuckhead in the Oval Office, who took it as an opportunity to attack the unrelated Russia investigation and feel sorry for himself. That was a cheap shot. That was taking advantage in his typical slimy sleazy disgusting way. But protestors confronting their elected representatives is not "politicizing."

Of course, I want most if not all guns banned and the NRA disbanded and run the fuck out of this country, but I don't think school shootings are primarily a gun problem. They would probably stop overnight if the media stopped publicizing the shooters and making it a "thing." The media is 75% responsible, though I don't blame them per se. They don't know any other way to cover it. They need to stop what they are doing now, and strategize something else.

What I would like to see is the sleazy pigs in Congress convene a 9/11 style Commission to study the problem and consider ALL angles--guns, media, protection of schools, early warning signs, and what the fuck is going on with these young men who do it. Bring in the FBI Behavioral guys and have them go talk to the shooters and figure out what's making them tick.

We need a task force that brings ALL the powers of the government to bear on understanding and solving it.

I totally support the gun control movement, but they are fooling themselves into thinking they have found a single answer.

Mental illness means nothing. That is a false flag, except insofar as we need to keep the crazies away from guns.

Yeah, only your politics are free from politicization. You just want Common Sense Solutions.

Nevermind then nothing you want to do makes any sense at all or represents anything in the form of a real solution but you just keep telling yourself that you're the one using logic and reason, instead of emotion and reaction.

Tonight, I heard the representative from the NRA say...there was no way this monster should have had access to guns.

Tonight, I heard Marco Rubio, backtrack and say...I would support outlawing high capacity magazines and would support age restrictions.

They are looking at this and saying...oh fuck...this is different...we better get on board or we will not only lose...we will lose everything. Why is this not obvious to everyone?

No excuses.

When is the next slaughter?

Friday night. Chicago, St.Louis, Detroit, and Baltimore. Sad to say your morbid body-count entertainment will be somewhat diminished by the skill of some of the finest trauma surgeons in the world who are going to be standing by and will save probably about two-thirds of the gunshot victims

Why do you ask?

Exactly... it's the same reason that criminals look for a home that's isolated to break in, and the number one thing they avoid at all costs is a dog of any size... it's the attention they bring by barking they don't want. Same rules of human nature apply, criminals simply want easy victims, and a gun carrying mark is not a willing victim, but instead is, as stated, one they will avoid at all costs. Many crimes are prevented just by the presence of a gun, and the assailant never completes their crime, choosing to run away instead. Crimes that get deterred hardly ever get reported, but estimates are that many thousands of deterred crimes don't happen every single day. The active shooters tend more and more to study their predecessors in great detail, and look for ways to ensure their criminal intent. In this Florida shooting, he knew and planned for the response pulling the fire alarms would generate, having himself gone through the active shooter drills at that very school. So the response of getting victims herded into hallways where he knew they would gather was as much his strategy as were the flight plans of the planes used on 9-11 studied and used against them.

Great argument.

Basically, "I know you are but what am I".

You still haven't actually provided any counters to anything I've said, but you do think highly of yourself, I'll give you that.

"Once the rockets go up, who cares where they come down?
That's not my department," said Werner von Braun

"Once the bullets go flying, who they kill, we can't say.
That's not our department," say the old NRA

I've worked with trauma surgeons. They get real tired.

Why do you ask?
It was obviously a rhetorical question.

The Slaughter-of-the-Day Club is in full swing, with lights flashing, music blaring, bullets flying, blood dripping, brains splattering, and hand-wringers saying nothing can be done about it. Yes, the executions WILL be televised.

Of course, I want most if not all guns banned

Of course. That's been clear, since you haven't made a coherent argument for anything but a radical stance that has no bearing in law, tradition, or society.

You're a fringe lunatic.

And I'll call you as such.

Mental illness means nothing. That is a false flag, except insofar as we need to keep the crazies away from guns.

No, we need to get crazy people the help they need, and deserve.

No excuses.

When is the next slaughter?

Syria. It's been happening this entire time this dumb argument has been happening, and 10 times the amount of people are being killed by government forces.

But you don't actually care about lives being lost. You care about scoring points for your ideologies.
