Well, this is worth interrupting my Lit sabbatical for.

It is always a mistake to take Lance at his word, but perhaps he really intends to honor the ban, and move on to hunt for vulnerable people elsewhere.

I have been here, off and on, since 2003. I've seen the board go through it's phases, both good and bad, and it has been clear to me that no other poster has come close to exerting as much negative influence as Lance. And in case you're saying "You wouldn't say that if he were here", he's known damn well how I view him for more than a decade.

Of course, he had a very similar attitude towards me. Those of you who were not here in the early days may not know that Lance was a raging homophobe, attacking any and all gay posters, in an open attempt to drive us off the GB.

In the years since, he's toned down that aspect of his posting, but his contempt for women had never abated. He was a textbook example of a gaslighter. He probed constantly for vulnerabilities and then ruthlessly exploited them, for no other purpose than to take delight in causing as much emotional pain to others as he could. Then, of course, he would always throw up his hands and claim that it was all in fun, and he never bore anyone any ill will. Funny how in more than 15 years, he never got any better at being understood.

He mastered the technique of posting vicious attacks and threats, then editing them out and denying he'd made them.

He gave encouragement to every troll, predator and disruptor who came along after him.

I will say that he did in fact achieve his goal of being the most influential poster on the board. Congratulations on a successful Lit career, asshole.

Not surprising, homophobia and sexism go hand in hand. Yes i have noticed he had a raging hatred of women. He also loved to body shame many female posters, because he knows many women have body issues and that is the way he felt could hurt them.

Men like that either have been wronged by their mothers or a woman they loved. What a pity...

My two cents.

Lance and I have long been adversaries, but he was a worthy adversary. All of the criticisms levied against Lance are for the most part true. At the same time he was intellectually spot on for the most part. He would rub your flaws in your face, how un-PC can you get? People don't like that at all.

The GB has just been dumbed down by another degree.

So Ogg, if Lance would like to continue our adversarial relationship outside of Lit., I'm up for it. God knows that Lit. is rapidly becoming an intellectual wasteland.
