Comey is about to fuck Trump.

Things that stood out to me:

  • Comey coming out and using words as strong as "lie" right out of the gate.
  • WTF Jeff Sessions.
  • Was that a little Kushner shade?
  • Confirmations of new info about scope of Mueller and FBI investigations.
  • Comey is a fucking great showman and savvy political actor who knows exactly what he is doing.
  • McCain was...worrisome.
  • I'd like to say I can't believe the rethuglicans have jumped from "anonymous sources FAKE NEWS" to "haha we already knew this NOTHINGBURGER" but of course I can.

Fair observations - which you will be clobbered for.;)
Sessions is in a sweet spot - gets paid - does bugger all - Trump would love to fire him but cannot.
This is only the beginning , there's heaps more to come.
Comey looked impressive but how right he will turn out to be is unclear.

Irony: I don't feel safe saying there is anyone in his administration Trump cannot fire.

Yep. There was a lot of good reasons Trump
could have given to let him go with cause.

" I asked him three time to inform the public I wasn't under investigation. He didn't"
"I asked him three time to investigate leaks. He didn't"
" both democrats and republicans lost faith in him"

All valid reasons. To bad Trump is too stupid to use them. He seems to be good at doing the right thing poorly....

He's not a politician. Go back to my "Trump" threads from over a year ago. He's not "swave and deboner" but he is effective. More importantly he connects with the people that are sick and tired of politicians that talk for an hour and say nothing.

I hear you as to what Trump should do. But that's us, not him. But the fact is, is that that battle is over. So is the 'Russian' mantra. The carpet has been pulled from underneath ALL of those believers. The new battle cry is "Obstruction of Justice." New attack, new tactics. (Well, not so new really. It seems the left has embraced the "Hitler" philosophy. Go figure.)

In the end all of this BS, and it is BS, is about the mid-terms. Traditionally the 'out' party gains seats, even without the toxic environment being created. The Dems are hoping for the Senate at the least. Maybe even the house. They're looking for a replay of 2006. Their problem is that regardless of their rhetoric and the "pile on press", Trump's numbers are holding steady and it will take only a few more wins on his part to evaporate their dreams.

People vote their wallets for the most part and their wallets are looking good today.

That being said, politics is the only true blood sport and a week is like a year in that game. It can all change in the blink of an eye.

To Perg.

Love him or hate him, he IS your president. Argue what he does, NOT his rhetoric. Further, the press has just had to print a LOT of retractions. Just whose credibility is in question here?

Ishmael

.He's not "swave and deboner"

He's not what??

You'd expect any candidate for the job to have a clear understanding of the job description, especially when it comes to the limits of his power.

I've always considerd any person who believes they can run a country in the same way you run a business is deluded. You cannot treat citizens as though they are employees, they won't stand for it.

He testified that he believes that the FBI is an entity to it's self. Answerable to no one. That mind set alone makes him unqualified for the job. He has to answer to the AG, then the president, then the congress and ultimately to the people of this nation. If he truly believes that he is outside the pecking order, I hope the door hit him in the ass on his way out. We have no need of another J. Edgar.

He didn't say anything of the sort. He specifically said that the President had the right to fire him for virtually any reason. But he also said the FBI should be free from political influence from the President or anyone else in the conduct of its official investigations. There is no real conflict between these two statements. No chief law enforcement officer needs a political superior to micro-manage the pursuit of criminal justice, and no political superior has any business doing so. The proper role of political superior is broad agency policy, budgeting and program development and direction. And there was nothing in Comey's testimony to indicate he doesn't understand and accept that.

Lastly he testifies that he felt coerced. That 'He' felt Trump was 'obstructing justice.' There were no arrests, no indictments, justice is not part of the picture. Only an investigation that DID NOT involve Trump or Flynn. Further, only the AG is supposed to make that determination, not Comey.

He didn't say that either. He SPECIFICALLY said that the obstruction of justice question was one to still be determined by Mueller's investigation. Actually, both that assumption and your assertion that the determination should be made by the AG is academic since the DOJ continues to operate on an opinion from its own Office of Legal Counsel (OLC) that a President is immune from criminal indictment and prosecution WHILE STILL IN OFFICE. Here is the link to that opinion: https://www.justice.gov/sites/default/files/olc/opinions/2000/10/31/op-olc-v024-p0222_0.pdf

"suave and debonair"

I'm not sure where the term "swave and deboner" came from, but it's an old joke on the original term, "suave and debonair", here in the US.

debonairor debonaire, debonnaire

Suave and debonair for those of you not living in Espanola.

Actually he does seem to have a clear understanding of his job description. He's just a tad more Andrew Jackson/Harry Truman than your delicate sensibilities seem to be able to accept.

And with the emboldened part you've hit on a valid point. It is a fear regarding Trump that I've expressed long before he even got the nomination. Of course that fear was clouded by my business association with Ross Perot. So far my fears haven't been realized. So far.

As far as your 'employee' quip. I see no manifestation of that either so far. But speaking for myself, I'd rather be treated as an employee as opposed to a 'subject.' The notion of an Imperial presidency is as offensive to me as an FBI director that thinks they aren't answerable to anyone.

As I already posted, IMO, he answers to many people, not just Trump... Leading into his testimony, I saw lots of things referring to 1 of the 2 referring to (again) 1 of the 2 mentioning if Trump was under investigation. He doesn't answer to you, let alone follow your orders, when it's involving dropping (or anything else involving) an investigation you're a key part of. (Not to mention the way you got the position that would make you his boss or not.)

We can sit and pick fly shit out of the pepper all night long. But you and I arguing the nuances of what is going on is pointless. The subject has moved on and the fight is being fought in the realm of public opinion.

No matter how carefully crafted Comey's words were, he threw a bone to the liberals who are now crying "obstruction of justice." That's the fact Jack. And it's all hinged on Comey's words.

There are attorneys out there, Tobin for example, who will take issue with your assessment.

Further, taking some delight in pointing this out, Comey colluded with Lynch in the crafting of the statement regarding the decision, wholly on Comey's part (so he stated) not to recommend prosecution of Hillary. So much for the independence of the FBI which he DID testify that he believed in.

It goes without question that the FBI director has to interface with the DOJ. But if the director finds evidence of illegal activity it is the job of the 'top cop' to press for an indictment. It is the job of the AG to explain to the public as to why a warrant for arrest, or indictment, was not issued. That he allowed himself to be maneuvered into that position speaks volumes of his character and intellect.

You are quite good at the analysis of the law and how things are supposed to work. I don't take your posts lightly. But this is all about raw political power. The law, and the way things are 'supposed' to work have little to do with the situation. And as I've told you before, the law is whatever the politicians can convince the plebes that it is, should be, or they should support.

And interestingly enough, Trump seems to be about enforcing the laws on the books as opposed to making law out of thin air. That can change, but so far, so good.

That he is. I've never been a "not my president" person. Presidential rhetoric is worth discussing. In this case, the man lies constantly. Usually, they're lies of no particular, quantifiable consequence, like about inauguration crowd sizes or him being treated worse than any snowflake...err...politician...in history. A man who lies constantly is a man who deserves constant fact-checking or dismissal. The latter seems unlikely, so I guess we're stuck with the former. We just cannot believe a single thing he says. Which is kind of a pain.

I didn't mention the press. That's a classic Ish red herring/false dichotomy. It is entirely possible for both Trump and the press to lie frequently. When Trump's credibility is in question, bringing up the press to say they're worse is the equivalent of the schoolkid saying "Bobby did it, too!" in an attempt to avoid punishment.

There are going to be a lot of posts like this from the trumptards.

Desperately grasping at any straw to save themselves from drowning in what they now see as the sea of betrayal and foolishness that the orange one has led them into.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't he testify that Trump encouraged the investigation?

All the tapes I've seen quote Comey as saying Trump told him to "let it go".

Also, it seems most GOP folks are defending Trump by saying he didn't know what he was doing, was learning about law on the job, etc. (Seth said he'd never get hired at Chipotle b/c "even" there, "you have to shadow somebody for a week".)

Well, let's start with the inauguration. Like the before and during pictures. Or this;

Money talks, bullshit walks.

If we can't believe a word he says, why is the press the ones caught with their foot in their mouths so often?

"This is what you say, this is what you do." I have very little interest in what you say. I keenly watch what you do. And, of course, Obama NEVER went on national television and lied through his teeth to the nation, did he?

Get over it Perg.

No.

And if we must compare, I'm not surprised by the link of hotels doing better for Trump's than Obama's. The first African-American president is exciting, whereas Trump puts people to sleep.

You are a LIAR. That was regarding Flynn, not the investigation the FBI was engaged in. Further, the exact quote was, "I hope you can let this go."

And as it turns out neither Trump nor Flynn were under investigation. So you're just kinda a Klingon.

It was regarding the investigation into Russia, not any one person. Also, you have no idea who was truly under investigation when, so apologies accepted.

The press...Obama...hotels, not crowds.

Why are you defending this person? Are you just arguing to argue, and if so why not with some substance, instead of "But the press! But Obama?"

You can find a list of his lies as easily as anyone else. Instead, you torture logic with false dichotomies and red herrings. Did you even vote for him?

Hotels ARE crowds Perg. Damn.

He's doing what I want done. What I've wanted done for years.

1. Get the fucking illegals out of the country. They're fleeing like cockroaches when you turn on the kitchen light.

2. Call a spade a spade. Islam IS the enemy. And will remain so until they clean up their own house.

3. Shit can "ShuckNJiveCare." I don't give a shit if 10 million Americans are going to have to find another way. The burden on the remaining 380 million is just to great. Of course that leaves me open to accusations of being 'heartless' and that I just want them to die. Fine, play that game. The fact is that everyone is going to die. You, I, everyone. How much of my life's energy should I be required to sacrifice in a futile effort to sustain your life for another month, year, decade? The entire premise of the sales job was bull shit from the git go.

4. Bag the entire notion of "free trade." While I'm all in favor of that happening it just isn't going to occur when government, any government, sticks their nose in the transaction. I don't need a government to make a deal with you. The only rule should be honesty in the contract. I get what I paid for and you get the agreed upon compensation. Trump is right on this as well. It was a bad contract and it's time to renegotiate.

Speaking of 'bagging' things, specifically what Trump initiatives/policies do you take issue with?

Ok, I don't agree with you over the policies you want to see enacted but everyone should be able to champion their causes. That's all part of the benefit of living in a free society.

What I don't understand is how you have come to believe that Trump is the one to implement these things.

He has demonstrated his lack of understanding of constitutional norms and protocols, he lies, he displays classic narcissitic and sociopathic traits. He is making your country the laughing stock of the world, he is isolating your county from your traditional allies.

Not only do you think he is the 'one' you continue to support and defend him despite a growing bank of evidence that by any estimation he is totally unfit for the role.

Let's start with the question, just exactly, are the policies you don't agree with?

Trump IS implementing those policies. More to the point he is re instituting the rule of law. Nothing he's done so far is not already law on the books.

What "Constitutional Norms?" That's bull shit speak for "he's not doing what I want him to do." Tell me, and everyone else, EXACTLY how he has violated the constitution? Give me (us) some facts. You can believe in God, Flat Earth, Alien visitation, hell, you can believe in whatever you want. But when it comes to accusing people, anyone, of shit, you better come up with some hard evidence. If you can't you're just another gossip, a Mrs. Olsen, A nose in every ones business but your own. Then again, that is pretty much the democrat profile.
