What did you want to be when you were a young 'un?

Nerd madness. You want to be the tardis. Want to date.

have a full size Dalek in my lounge too. Granted it is a cardboard cut out the kids bought me last year for my birthday but Big D as I call him is one of the family. :D

I am living your dream.

For the most part I loved this job. Some of the elderly customers were darlings who would buy one thing just for a bit of a chin wag and they were lonely. One old guy loved pinching my bum. I think he missed his late wife and I reminded him of her. Either that or he was a cheeky naughty old man lol.

I bet you have made someones day way better by just a kind word or a smile or a genuinely warm welcome. :)

I wrote a paper when I was 13 about being a nurse. I did. That was a long time ago. You can do many different things as a nurse. I worked in a hospital for about 3 years and have been out in the community since then. 164 Fridays left and then I'm closing the door.

Nurses are truly amazing people. Without people like you, justpet and so many others I would not have been able to care for my terminally ill MIL at home to pass away with her family around her as she wanted to be with us. Hearing our voices, feeling our love.

Lovely to see you. :)

Giving my age away:

I wanted to be an express steam train driver.

A family friend had been an express driver before the war but his sight was damaged during the 1940 blitz (while driving a train) so he had changed to shunting in goods yards. But he managed to get me a footplate ride on a steam express when I was nine years old. They wouldn't allow that now...

I don't recall any of that "what do you want to be when you grow up?" shit from my youth.

The message imprinted on me by parents and teachers was "you can do anything you set your mind to"

Turns out they were right.

I think a lot of people end up doing what their parents wanted them to, or what would make them look cool or what brings in more money. Instead of doing the things that they're naturally inclined for or good at.
18 is too young to make lifelong decisions, but there's no better way.

RAF pilot.

Broke my jaw playing rugby, got back to school to find it had knocked my vision out and at 14 I was now needing a new perfect job.

Now work in conservation, turning a hobby into a job.

hi

accountant. But since my teacher discovered, I have nothing to do with numbers My idea snuffed out.

When I was very young, I wanted to become a teacher. Then, later, a research scientist. I became a teacher who teaches STEM courses.

True this. My best mate was pushed into law by her father from the age of twelve onwards. She's totally minted but she's never really enjoyed it truth be told.

Movie star. Until I had the chance to visit a set and realized 90% of film acting was sitting and waiting and getting makeup shoved in your face.

^^^This! Specifically a Gemini astronaut. Coolest guys on the entire planet.

Dude, the cool guys were the Mercury 7 (Astronaut Group 1).

I wish I still had my old plastic space helmet. Just hang in the shop.

I wanted to fly F-18's for the Canadian Forces (well at first it was Voodoo's, then it morphed into F-18's). Mostly because going fast and blowing shit up is fabulous.

I ended up leaving home when I was 16 because mum wouldn't let me have a motorcycle, became a weekend warrior reservist infantryman, blew shit up and still go too fast on motorcycles. And yeah it's still fucking fabulous, haa haa.

I did weekend warrior with the artillery...can't beat anti-tank drill with a 105 howitzer and high explosive shells

I wanted to be a zamboni driver

and build stuff..I been building stuff all my life now...never did get to drive the zamboni:(

An astronaut, of course.

Me too.

And after all these decades, I'm astonished by how few openings there are, still, for astronauts. This is, I think, a far more serious protest than "Where's my flying car?!"
