I've travelled with guns several times. They have to be checked. They have to be declared. They have to be locked. The lock has to be inspected. They never make it past controlled areas.

So yes, you can get it from baggage claim and go to a bathroom. You can also drive to the airport with one in your pocket and walk to baggage claim.
