Trump made promises that people want to hear. He fed on their fears and promised the sky.

Hillary was the status quo. And people want change. I doubt they can actually articulate what changes they want though.

Liberalism, globalization and open borders are anathema to many.

IMO this will set the world back 50 years.

IMO Brexit was driven by open borders. Right wing nationalism is rife in Europe due to flood of refugees and immigrants. Americans want to stay safe and insulated, if not isolated.

A sad day for America and the world.

Neoliberalism refers primarily to the 20th century resurgence of 19th century ideas associated with laissez-faire economic liberalism. These include extensive economic liberalization policies such as privatization, fiscal austerity, deregulation, free trade, and reductions in government spending in order to enhance the role of the private sector in the economy.

What you call neo-liberalism is just plain liberalism.

But allow me to point out that a vote for 'change' is not a vote promulgated out of fear, quite the contrary it's vote for uncertainty. It's refreshing that the citizens of this nation are still willing to take that risk, and it is a risk.
