Yes, my choice is generally naked feet. I don't own any elegant footwear, honestly. Shoes are utilitarian and only as needed for me. I think my black ankle boots are pretty elegant, but they were chosen for comfort -- walking and standing on stone -- and they're flat. Really comfortable soft leather. I guess most people think that elegant entails high heels and straps.
