Almost 20 years abroad and I have had phones loaded up with everyone else's apps from WhatsApp to Skype just so that I can call my loved ones back home... but FaceTime quality can't be beat. And I don't have to have all these other apps running all the time just in case a call comes in. $79 *cries. An 8 Gig 4S still costs about $130 over here.

Many Danes tossed their letters without responding. I recently read an article from one of the two Danish law firms representing Scandibox and some other larger film companies. It made me guffaw."We're perplexed by the fact that some of people seem to be throwing these notices away. We'd prefer to settle out of court, and we can't imagine why they'd prefer to settle things in court. Normally the losers have to pay the legal fees for the other team. Just as a reminder."

I might disagree with you IF Scandi countries made it possible to buy or rent films and allowed more free streaming. There are lots of TV series not shown here, movies may or may not make it to theaters over here, we can't view Hulu and as far as Scandi iTunes libraries are concerned it's slim pickin's. I've had to make do without a lot because items simply aren't available for purchase over here. We have to pay an arm and a leg for everything over here (Income tax is 56%) but people are willing to pay - we just don't have the options. So I do understand why some folks give in and go the pirating route.

When ordering things from abroad, I'm not the one filling out the customs forms, nor do I always have the opportunity to request that billing information not be included in the packaging. When ordering things from Amazon.co.uk the VAT is included and Customs won't touch it. Friends and family either keep their package contents reasonably priced, or they flat-out lie.

Which reminds me: Years ago I worked at a hotel cleaning rooms. Almost every day I'd find porn mags under the beds or in dresser drawers. I used to collect them and tear out the pages to use instead of the styrofoam packing peanuts for boxes back home. I got so in the habit that I didn't think twice when I sent a package home for my college-aged brothers. They may have been appreciative if it hadn't been so perplexing being sent crumpled up porn by their older sister...

in this you really shouldn't disagree with me. copyright and patent law are fucked. copyright trolls and patent trolls exist because there's money to be made abusing the system largely through extortion. it's completely fucked. in this country it's possible to make a living patenting vague ideas and then suing the living shit out of anyone creative enough to actual make something real and functional. even if the cases get thrown out of court the trolls can still win by burying you in lawsuits you have to spend money to contest until finally you find yourself forced to give up, settle and move on with your life. it's not right and needs to be stopped.
