And so, JBJ, I just finished a historical e-book on seduction (bisexual) in 1920s Austria, moving into the height of the Nazi occupation in 1941, and also just finished drafting a short story of a mid-life crisis guy slowly becoming Key Westinized in 1970. Isn't that as exciting as what you always have to tell us you're writing (or maybe not--maybe just blowing smoke about)?

Let's all tell JBJ what we're in the process of writing or thinking of writing or pretending we're writing.

Tonight, I'm working on the final review of a story, "Halfway," to appear in an anthology, Grab Bag 10, that probably will release in April 2016, with "Halfway" being submitted to Lit. in June or July. "Halfway" is about the goings on at a male brothel at a truck stop hole in the road on Interstate 81 that's half way between Philadelphia and Harrisburg, PA.

Don't know. Since Monday, I've written a 24,000-word novella and a 9,000 word short story. Both conceived the day I started writing them.

My coauthor, Sabb, and I are seven chapters into a GM romance set in Galicia, Spain, where a middle-aged American and a likewise Aussie have both moved and are restoring village houses and establishing a new life in the hope that there's more in life and love than there was where they came from. In the mainstream, I'm working on a murder mystery novel set in a small-college academic publishing house, where difficult authors are being popped off and any number of exasperated employees of the publishing house could be offing them. (Much of the plotting was put together a few years back when I was subbing as managing editor of a large academic publishing house--with the employees happy to provide fodder on what authors to kill and why.)

I'm writing a mainstream (of course) for pay (of course) story called Dueling Tallywackers at Lit High. Looks like I came to the right place for research on what high school was like.

BTW, there was a fight in the cafeteria yesterday. If you ever want to write a fight scene that doesn't include scratching, biting and pulling hair, read JBJs Hazardous Waste Chapter 3 for how it's done (and he does it without pay).

I don't really have trouble doing my own writing. If it's a scene I don't think I can handle on my own (and there would be a lot of those), I don't include it. I don't write by committee or by mimicking anyone else.

I also don't write high school stuff--either here or in the mainstream. I think of high school as vapid and shallow.

The fight scene is a template for other things. Boxing is compressed and concentrated action. Its ROCKY. But much of our lives are the same process, spread out across time.

The ISIS XMAS tale is an example of what I mean. Its the same-exact event with ISIS and the police in the arena.

I could go on about what I'm working on and how many words I've pumped out in the last month/week/day etc...

But personally I don't feel the need to brag and try to show everyone how 'amazing' I am by constantly touting my productivity. Or using that as an excuse to bash things I personally have no liking for as if my opinion matters more than any other person's.

I'll just stick to writing a story, letting it runs its course and moving on to the next one.

That's how it is for me. Its always the next one. I have that brief moment of a sense of 'good job' when I type the end, but that lasts only long enough for me to say "Okay, next!"

Today I'm polishing up a story, "Need to Be Needed," inspired by Gore Vidal, novelist, acid-tongue political and social commenter (but politically well placed, being related to the Gores, the Bouviers (Jackie), and the Roosevelts), who was the Oscar Wilde of his time and who, by legend, when younger, one-time-only fucked a guy a night in the New York baths and took a different one home for a one-night stand. Reputedly to have been heavenly endowed. Howard Austen was one of the guys he took home from the baths and laid (but legend says he laid him only once) and then kept him for 53 years. The inspiration is in keeping one of them for 53 years.

Islamic State In Serbia. Though they have spread beyond the Serbian borders. Also called 'Daesh' in France. They have a bunch of other names and acronyms.
