10 of the best speeches from the Syria airstrikes debate

Two Aircraft reported leaving Cyprus after the vote was taken.

The opening of the debate over whether Britain should bomb Isis targets in Syria may have been uninspiring but it later picked up and the backbench contributions have generally been impressive. Here are 10 of the best.

I didn't read the whole article but I don't think anyone blamed America for creating ISIS, yet.

I was impressed at how fast strikes began. RAF I'm sure had everything planned ahead just in case. Go ahead comes down and as fast as a quick pre-mission confab is done, you're off.

America did not create ISIS. America contributed to the power vacuum that ISIS stepped into. That and the failure of the Syrian opposition to oust Assad quickly and bloodlessly. Between sectarian torn Iraq and Syria in civil war, ISIS arose. Literally, right between the two countries.

You ignore the bumbel fuckery of Paul Bremmer in disbanding the Iraqi Army wholesale and not keeping them on the payroll. They formed from the Neo-Cons limited imagination in "Nation Building" much as LBJ failed in Nam.

But with our Gallant Allies beside us now, I'm sure America's coalition will prevail and Liberty and Justice for all will break out in the Middle east and Syria will be made whole again. Right.

Just as Bombing Libya to save a bloodbath has helped stabilize North Africa.

they're sending a couple of tornados to cyprus - one of which will be awaiting spares.

The reality is that the RAF strikes in Syria will be a pinprick compared with the US's attacks. Their strikes will be even less numerous than those the French can do and are doing.

The importance is that the UK has decided to stand with its allies. That matters more than the capacity of the RAF to deliver.

But some of their missiles have the capability for small scale precision attacks on a single vehicle. That is not duplicated by the other participants in the bombing of Daesh in Syria.

Like the others, the UK will kill a few lizards and holes in the roads.

A cruise missle performs as well as a jet and pilot, and makes a bigger hole in the ground. No pilot to capture.

The folks in the EU are so much more advanced and progressive just eons beyond us dumb shit rednecks in the US of REtarD right?

I can't believe we're spending the money/effort we are....

Nope. We just happen to have a smaller precision bomb which causes fewer civilian casualties.

It won't penetrate bunkers, blow up oil wells, crater roads - but it can be launched from a great height and be guided to destroy a single vehicle in a column of vehicles.

The US has similar bombs but they can only be used from helicopters.

Compared with the US's bombing missions, the RAF effort will be minimal but their small scale precision might be a useful addition.

In terms of numbers of military aircraft within range, the Turks can put more (384 in theory) over this potential strike zone than anybody, even the US. It'd be interesting to see the Russian response to Turks attacking ISIL and Assad's forces. However, due to Turkey's relations to Sunni nations they have been reluctant to up the ante - so far.

The Turks have an army and airforce about equal in magnitude to France, Germany, and UK combined, but they are much closer.

See! No reason for big bad innocent civilian murdering US war mongers to do shit.

Eh....we REALLY need to just fuck off and let ISIS do their thing with Europe.

Too late for that. The US is complicit in arming Saddam and the Saudis. Then removing Saddam and creating a power vacuum fir ISIS to step into. The instigators and supporters of radical Sunni groups fly F-22s and drive around in Humvees.

To walk away would be a huge loss of face. Go skulking from a fight you had a hand in instigating. It would be a huge victory to ISIS if the US left the region. Like the impetus it gave the Taliban after the Russians ran.

You guys (and west) are as guilty as anyone over the state of the ME. The US supports a country that overthrew the ethnic group which had lived their for 2k years. They used mass illegal immigration and terror attacks to accomplish it. Got to admit just a tiny bit of irony there. They were funded by fundamentalist groups in the US. Even if they were fleeing fascist genocide.

plus c'est chance plus c'est le meme chose

Then what? Cancel multi-billion dollar arm sales to the region? Like the industrial-military complex is going to let that happen. Let Russia take over infrastructure and facilities construction? Have the US just go back into pre-WW2 isolationism?

Would you use the time, energy, money, resources and lives saved to repair any damages to the US by internal issues? Do you even think the military expenditure saved would find it's way into infrastructure or job creation?

Dreamland, dude, dreamland!

Face is already lost, the warmongering US has NOTHING to gain by staying there or doing a fucking thing. Just look how much you hate the US, you come on here and shit talk it all day every day along with most of the Europeans and hell even most of the Americans on this forum. So what the fuck? It's literally JUST a money pit that is getting us nothing and taking us nowhere.

I didn't say go back to pre WW2 isolationism, I said quit spending time/money/lives in the lost cause that is the middle east.

Fuck no they wouldn't use any of the money saved for anything constructive.

That's not the point though. ;)

I don't hate the US! Not really. I just don't see how you folk can ignore the issues which globally have you ranked with war torn shit holes. Or proclaim yourselves as so exceptional when you lag in most areas in comparison to other developed nations. A large population in a temperate zone is hardly a call for greatness.

Airstrikes and SF forces is a lot cheaper than 150k troops. Considering US firepower you guys are almost out anyways. Expending some rounds that are just going to collect dust and give SF guys some hands on wet work.

If you can help you should. ISIS is one murderous bunch of barbarians. Fuck what others do! Fuck it if neighbours don't help and you just happen to be passing by. You do the right thing for the right reason and worry about costs later.

Well America has already helped a whole lot in the Middle east. Perhaps a couple of Trillion dollars worth of help.

Syria is not our Neighbor, in fact there is little evidence Syria and the US have much in common.

Maybe the US should stop trying to police the world and try cleaning up our act at home. Lord knows we have a mental health problem, and that is not just in Wash D.C.!

Maybe we should require that people who want to be elected should undergo a mental health exam and an ethics exam before they are allowed to run for office?

If the French and Brits want to bomb Syria, which is a result of their original sin, we ought to stand back a sell them the weapons to do it?

After months of non stop shit talking it, pardon me but, liar liar pants on fuckin' fire.

I just don't see how you folk can ignore the issues which globally have you ranked with war torn shit holes.

What issue are we ignoring that has us ranked with war torn shit holes...name one and the war torn shit hole.

We lag in some areas, not most, and a large population might not be but the fact that we can wipe anyone we want off the map without them ever seeing it coming? Earns some street cred.

Airstrikes and SF forces is a lot cheaper than 150k troops. Considering US firepower you guys are almost out anyways. Expending some rounds that are just going to collect dust and give SF guys some hands on wet work.

Still a waste of money and lives. Basically fuck all the haters I think we should drop this shit sandwich on their plate and walk off, they deserve it for running their dick sucks so hard all these years.

I think it's time to say goodnight to tha bad guy.

If you can help you should. ISIS is one murderous bunch of barbarians. .

Why? US has no real interest in doing so....besides won't the far FAR more advanced, wealthy and battle hardened progressives of Canada and Europe do a better job anyhow? I mean by comparison USA is fucking complete shit at everything right?

Why should the USA do ANYTHING....ANYTHING except sell you all weapons? Shit why do that you guys are so advanced you should just tax some into existence and be the new world police so we can all sit back and shit talk about what war mongering shit birds you are.....

We are the bad guys and ISIS is just poor poor Muslims, people of peace and love....you should stop being such a racist Islamaphobe, open up your home and let some of them live with you in the name of diversity.

I haven't expected you to become anyway reasoning. Still repeating being in a huff. You become even more boring then the other BB.

The best time for US help was in the Kosovo war. It was in consense with the whole of the NATO. We were united, even in the propaganda war.

Good ol' times.

Clinton orders attack on Iraq, June 26, 1993

On this day in 1993, President Bill Clinton ordered U.S. warships stationed in the Persian Gulf and in the Red Sea to launch Tomahawk cruise missiles against the headquarters of the Iraqi Intelligence Service in downtown Baghdad.

Saying "there will be no sanctuary for terrorists," President Clinton on Thursday said the U.S. strikes against terrorist bases in Afghanistan and a facility in Sudan are part of "a long, ongoing struggle between freedom and fanaticism."

Oh and your "I'm right and your wrong because you're a dumb American and I'm the superior German." way is SOOOOOOOOOOOOOO much more appealing

In'93 they were a new Toy. ;)

They should have learned about their capabilities from those strikes. First the lag time between when you get a targets location and when the missiles arrive from a 1,200 mile launch, the target may have moved. Second the CIA is not all that smart or informed.

And third, you get no blowjobs for blowing up anything on another continent.
