True story: years ago, I was taking martial arts classes. One of the things we had to practice a lot was blocking, which basically involved slamming your forearms into some other person's forearms. This meant that for several months my lower arms were covered in bruises in various stages of healing. Manu and I would go places together, and sometimes people would stare at him really really brutally meanly. The first time that happened we thought the person was insane, but then we figured out that people thought my bruising was caused by him. We were considering getting me a pin to wear around that would read something like, "I'm Not Being Beaten! I'm Learning Kung Fu!" but decided that would make it even weirder. Then I quit doing martial arts - in part because I was sick of walking around bruised all the time, and partially because I'm clumsy and sucked at it.

I was taught karate by Karl Von Schlingg. He claimed he was an ex-green beret. Perhaps. In any case, he did know self defense. He taught us Tae Kwon Do Mu Duk Kwan.

I remember him yelling to us, "And when you block, I want you to break bones !"

He was very high-strung.

I got to all of green belt before I dipped out. I kept getting hurt by the black belts trying to teach me offensive. Especially See Fu. He punched my ankle one time block it as I was doing a high kick towards him, and I got a goose egg bruise on it.

Dad got tired of taking me to the clinic for every little bangle and bruise. So, I quit.

And - green belt is not too bad. I think I can hold my own in a fight.

How far in belts did you get, Laurel ?

Oh, and I sent you two more PMs, please respond.

"The Messenger"
and
"Post With Glue"

Thanks !

Obviously. Which is why I got up earlier than normal to draw a terrible picture for her lunch note. If you find such a wondrous man, could you send him my way? I would cherish the unwanted and sage advice as if I actually was listening.

This may or may not have caused me to giggle/snort. In the most delicate and lady like way, of course. :rose:

Did Pai Mei teach you the Five-Point Palm Exploding Heart Technique?

indeed, i miss the sun today. i'm finding it easy to get off my ass at all today because the gloom is just not inviting.

I was a pugilist for decades. I got used to the side eye when I was sporting a bruised face or taped knuckles.

Does anyone know the effort or can calculate the work required to keep an every changing BB alt on ignore?

He's the speed bump of the Lit highway. There's always another one before you can set the cruise control.

Laurel, I would like to end all of my comments with a dancing nanner. How come I don't have access to the nana?

Edward Snowden now has a Twitter account. His only follow so far is @NSAGov.
