I have cancer too

That's one way to go. With a family history of bad kidneys, the odds I end up on dialysis are pretty high. My old doc didn't even suggest a partial nephrectomy. My new doc said he could pluck it out in 20 minutes but doesn't want to take the whole thing if it can be avoided.

I could probably go 6 months being hooked up to a machine before I blew my brains out.

Both of theirs was pretty bad, so maybe that is why.

12 hours.

Get some sleep so you will be awake enough to have a good talk with them.
Also ask them to write up whatever they tell you so you can review it and look up anything you might not totally understand later. It all tends to make perfect sense when you are there, but afterwards, some questions might arise.

Tumor is down to .7 cm but it's sitting right between the ureter and the renal artery so no more ablation, so it's off the Mayo and another new doctor. So, my new Muslim Arab doctor, working in a Catholic Hospital has referred me to a Jew....

You just can't make this stuff up. No one would believe it.

I should only have to wait 3-4 weeks before I hear anything, and that's just to go there for (2) days of testing, then, if it's a go for a partial, robotic nephrectomy, it should only be another 3 to 8 weeks.

Does math.

September?

Get an appointment with the new dr. or testing, whatever. Then ask to be on the waiting list, if they don't have one, call every day and ask if there are any cancellations.

I told my boss the whole story today. I know it's killing him because it's against company policy for him to tell anyone. He's been reprimanded for it before. He said he'd pray for me and I told him the Muslim Doctor/Catholic Hospital/Jew Doctor Referral story and said I was covered. Blank stare.

He then said that he could fix it so that I could work from home even though it's against company policy. I'm his most efficient worker bee even though I don't tow the company line and if I'm off any length of time, he's fucked. They just hired a whole bunch of "me's" but they aren't getting up to speed anytime soon.

Went up to HR to start all that paperwork bullshit. She told me good luck. Blank stare.

I keep pushing the fast forward button, but nothing happens.

What paperwork? Are you taking a medical leave of absence?

If you are at the Mayo in Rochester, I can tell you a good restaurant and a great fabric store.

Beats me. I just can't believe it will take 2 days.

The mayo clinic is something that can only be experienced, explaining how they operate would not do it justice. Bring a book or three.
Make sure your insurance covers them, plus any over nights, they may keep you longer than two days. Ask them about this when you get the appointment.
Will your insurance cover the hotel?

Beats me. I don't really have a choice.

No Cleveland Clinic option anymore?

My new Arab doctor told me it's full of Arabs and in the ghetto. I wasn't too keen on getting cured and killed. The Jew doc is out. I'm going with a Buddhist now. I have my appointment already- 2 weeks. 6 am. Crikey.

Well, I survived. I just have to learn to live with one kidney. I'd like to thank everyone for their support, cards and letters, etc. I couldn't have made it thru without you.

You forgot to thank Fox News for giving you reason to live?

You're welcome, Sally...

...and how, exactly, do you do that - "learn to live with one kidney"?

Just eat beans with one side of your mouth...

...the same side, of course, as the surviving kidney?
