"O God, who hast commanded us to honor our father; in Thy mercy have pity on the soul of my father, and forgive his his trespasses; and make me to see him again in the joy of everlasting brightness."

Rest, Dad. I love you. Give Jazz a kiss for me, and tell her I'll see her soon.

I am sorry for you losses. Poignant post. I am probably projecting but it reminds me of my feelings having reconciled with my dad shortly before he passed.

Translation: The U.S. State Department and the various EU foreign ministries didn't have the foggiest clue. Their ignorance has been revealed. They're bureaucrats; they get paid regardless.

LONDON (AP) — A parliamentary report published Friday accused the British government and European diplomats of "sleepwalking" into the Ukraine crisis, saying there was a "catastrophic misreading" of mood by Europe ahead of the standoff between Russia and Western countries.

The House of Lords' EU Committee said foreign ministries in Britain and other European countries have been poorly equipped to draw up an "authoritative response" to the crisis partly because they lack expertise on Russia.

"The (British) government has not been as active or as visible on this issue as it could have been," the committee said.

It also said that for too long the EU had been optimistic about Russia's democratic development, and as a result Europe failed to realize the depth of Russian hostility when the EU opened talks on Ukraine in 2013...

NATO Expansion At The Heart of Ukraine Crisis

...Since the Soviet collapse — as Moscow had feared — that alliance has spread eastward, expanding along a line from Estonia in the north to Romania and Bulgaria in the south. The Kremlin claims it had Western assurances that would not happen. Now, Moscow's only buffers to a complete NATO encirclement on its western border are Finland, Belarus and Ukraine.

The Kremlin would not have to be paranoid to look at that map with concern. And Russia reacted dramatically early last year. U.S.-Russian relations have fallen back into the dangerous nuclear and political standoff of the Cold War years before the Soviet collapse

It began with prolonged pro-Western demonstrations in the Ukrainian capital. The upheaval caused corrupt, Russia-friendly President Viktor Yanukovych to flee to Moscow nearly a year ago. The political turmoil broke out after Yanukovych — contrary to an agreement with the European Union for closer trade and political ties with the pan-European political and trading bloc — backed out and accepted Russian guarantees of billions of dollars in financial aid.

When a new, pro-Western government took power in Ukraine, Russia reacted by seizing the Crimean Peninsula and making it once again a part of Russia. Soviet leader Nikita Khrushchev transferred the strategic region from Russian federation control to the Ukraine republic in 1954. Crimea remained base to Russia's Black Sea fleet, and ethnic Russians are a majority of the population.

Russian-speaking separatists in eastern Ukraine — along the Russian border — began agitating, then fighting to break free of Kiev's control, variously demanding autonomy, independence or to become a part of Russia...

No child should have to die, much less like he did...alone, afraid, confused and so cold. That story is going to haunt me for days.

Confirmed, he now has no testicles.

Just overheard: "You left the toilet seat up."

She is VISITING the bunkhouse where three grown men and one cat reside. I heard her arguing over closet space with him yesterday.

His first wife was a demanding, insecure, immature 19 year old. He moved her in, knocked her up, then felt it his Christian duty to marry her. That ended in tears. His current 19 year old girlfriend that initially offered an FWB arrangement has two modes: whine and giggle. Lately more whine than giggle.

As he has not grown in appreciation of the modern marvel of latex condoms, I am fairly certain history is about to repeat itself.

I've never understood why women complain about men leaving the seat up. It takes way less time and energy to just put the thing down than it does to pick a fight about it. And anyhow - why should it be assumed it's their job to put it down for us? Why isn't it our responsibility to leave it down for them? And what if they put the seat down, but the next person to use the toilet is a guy? Wouldn't that be inconsiderate?

I think far too many people go through life actively looking for things to be angry/complain about.

ok, they can decided the toilet rules if they take over cleaning duties. :)

i only complain when it's the middle of the night and my ass lands in toilet water. even then it's more mild, under the breath cussing.
