Why income inequality is America’s biggest (and most difficult) problem

I think the debate has to be carried by the current generation who clearly face the prospect of doing worse than their parents. That would be an American first. But will this generation do that? My older kids (24 and 22) are apolitical.

Perhaps, but a great many Millennials are not. OWS was quite a young crowd. And the Tea Party is quite an old crowd. Who do you think wins in the long run?

Of course time favors youth.

Having said that political wisdom and know how usually comes from the experienced. Have kids succeeded with anything since the Vietnam war protests? I would argue not. OWS achieved absolutely nothing. The WTO protests before that achieved zero.

Old Tea Baggers were at least able to cycle an off year election for political gain. All be it their desired changes mostly fell flat too.

Doing worse how?

I'm willing to bet we aren't going to do the "Fuck everyone else let's get ours!!" our parents did. I look at my generation and see a bunch of people who are tired of the "Fuck you I got mine" attitude of their parents and want to change it.... It didn't do anything for our nation but fuck it up.

How is that doing worse?? And why is it the kids fault the parents set them up with such a shitty situation?

Further more you don't get to drop your generations fuck up's in the laps of the millennial and say "You're doing worse!!" ....another "Fuck you I got mine, and I don't have to take any responsibility for it!!" from the "Fuck you" generation. I'm sure you're proud of that crowning achievement from your generation. LOL

That would be an American first. But will this generation do that? My older kids (24 and 22) are apolitical. They may moan and complain but neither is inclined to engage in social activism for change.

Because it's a waste of fucking time....

Not a billionaire? Then you really have no political voice in our "Rich own the government and use it to enslave the peasants" type government. To say there is would be perpetuating one of the most grievous lies your generation ever told mine. Right next to school & hard work = sucess!!

What a load of shit...

Also they probably aren't as apolitical as you might think. They probably just don't want to hear another RWCJ rant.

LOL keep telling yourself they did anything but cripple the GOP......

Whatever...

Whatever...

Standard conservative/republican response.....unfortunately not one that answers any questions for shit, as per standard.

Doing worse how?

And how are the current problems the new kids fault (they aren't even taking over yet) and not the fault of your generation.....you know the the ones who have been and are currently fucking things up as fast and hard as they can?

You made the claim....back it up chump.

In earning prospects.

Do they think once they turn the reigns over to the younger generation it's all just going to collapse or some shit?

We on average won't make as much money?

Bunch of immigrants who weren't lazy and privileged like American kids are will come in and take all the good paying jobs??

What??

I don't understand how you measure a generations success before most of them have even started the race.

Outsourcing and offshoring have hurt the jobs prospects. The 1% of the Millennial generation won't be hurting, but the 99% are screwed.

If you don't like that, well, do something about it. Revolution or something.

Seems to me that to believe in the alleged problem of "income inequality" you have to believe that people have a right to what they need, and what they need, is the belief that others have way more than t hey need. You have to believe in equal outcome, instead of equal opportunity. Trouble is, you have to install a police state to confiscate private property from A, so it can be given to B who didn't earn it. So, the biggest problem in America is the police state that has been erected to redistribute wealth from one class to another.

If you think there's equal opportunity in this country, you're stupider than you look (and that's pretty stupid).

And you're on here day in and day out defending the police state...

There are plenty of jobs available for millennials, but they are going to have to take a good look at where the jobs are and what they can do. Gone are the days Inn which any old college degree will get your foot in the door at a cushy "office job" as was the case for my generation. For instance a talented industrial designer who can execute packaging that is sexy enough to work retail shelf but also is sturdy enough to be drop shipped for online purchases can make six figures in their late 20s. That is the type of job people don't much think about but they are out there. But sadly of you have no skills you are fucked. You can't make a living off of the strength of your back anymore unfortunately.

I make less money that most of you. Give me your money until we are equal.

Well, you can, perhaps, but only at a migrant-worker's standard of living. (That's what the Mexicans come over for, which says something about their SOL at home -- but many get disappointed and go back, once they find out that, while you're in the U.S. you are earning dollars instead of pesos, but you're also spending dollars instead of pesos and they don't go so far over here.)

It's so bittersweet when I write a decent sized post into which I put though and someone only responds to the throw away line at the end.

Except that is hardly realistic for your average young person. There have never and will never be "plenty" of that kind of job. There pretty much can't be.

Let's say the American dog isn't being given enough Purina.

It's not a unique problem though. Heaps of high end wealth in China.Their communist government is trying to expand the middle class so as to prevent a revolution of the peasants. A now 900,000,000 strong contingent that has been the source of all trouble and revolution for 5,000 years.

Let's hope the American dog never gets starved to that point.

Silly. Supercilious. It is not what the dog is being fed, it is the crate that is the proper metaphor.

What a load of hysterical LW spastic ass piss....

Lower 30% maybe...99%....hardly.

LOL I don't think the fact that only 80% of my generation can afford a new Iphone6 or w/e is revolution worthy. When the Vettey types gain control, lose their shit and there is no food/housing for my generation, then we can revisit that idea.

Till then pretty much every 20-30 y/o in the US is living better than 99% of humans on Earth.....check your fuckin' privilege libby.
