Unless there was a previously-unknown and intimate friendship between the two, we all (present company excepted) "knew" Byron, yet Gump is the only one to constantly reference Byron, which he uses to legitimize what he's posting.

The fact that he's the ONLY one doing this is the creepy part. That is to say, he's not helping Byron live on so much as he's using the memory of Byron to further his agenda.
