FAWC 5: Line, Please!

You certainly swung it like a fur-tanga wearing barbarian warlord. Now put back that blood-stained F and take this plushy one, kay?

Yes, but, aren't you likely to give more credence to a comment you hear from more than one than from just one?

Thanks, though--from all of us, I'm sure--for reading them and giving some assessments.

True, in general... but the ones I'm thinking of, three or four made the same point I was going to bring up. If I were the author I'd feel anybody else adding a similar comment would be piling on.

In any case I'm happy to give assessments where I could and I thank those who did the same for mine.

I would agree that hearing it from three--especially ones posting in their account names, should be enough.

Isn't it a bit early to unveil?

Unveil, I would think, should come when those showing interest have managed to make it through what they are going to read/rate. Both views and ratings seem to be pretty static now (although a sweep would be nice and might renew interest). I'd probably need a couple of more days to read what I'm going to read--which isn't the longer ones because I honor the "short" in "short story" and don't have the time to devote to the long ones.

Fair enough and granted! On the other hand, you do have a history...

And no one bothers to look at the comparitive language and nastiness. I have never, ever shoveled the personal attack shit that gets shoveled at me on this forum.

See, I honor the "long" in "long-winded".

I'll guess. :) These are really just random shots. I know three, including mine. Not sure I'll guess on everything, either. But just to get things started...

You must set a much larger portion of your time available for that than I do--or can. Long isn't about commercial and I write with an eye to the commercial. (I'm even now packaging a FAWC 5 story to go off to the publisher to be turned into a bit of cash in the marketplace.)

Thanks for kicking that off. I've only fingered one author for a story on the forum so far (apparently too subtely, as the author didn't catch that I'd done so--or at least pretended he didn't). Strangely enough, it was "Mystery Night," which I suggested slyc_willy wrote because of a Germanic rendering of a long German word that only someone familiar with German would get character order set up logically (in German). Also the genre fits. Guess this is my way of saying, "sorry, no," on suggesting I wrote that one. (The matrix people can pick up their erasers again.) I certainly wouldn't be upset to have it attributed to me, though.

Nice to see the lively spirit of debate is alive and well, even if it's not always a debate. But we have to take the good with the bad, obviously.

Regarding editing: it's been brought up before and obviously, I couldn't keep anyone from having their work edited if I wanted to (which I don't). How everyone handles their story(s) is up to them. Sure, to keep the spirit of anonymity completely clean, anyone who wants their work edited should find someone outside the challenge. But it's not a requirement.

As far as how the items on the table were or were not used, it's already been pointed out that doing so was not a requirement, just the incorporation of the line. I personally like to see when they are an integral part of the story, but I wouldn't think a story any less for not including them. I think those who have done so invested themselves a bit more into the challenge, but that is my opinion only and mine carries no more weight than that of anyone else.

I'll be out of touch for most of tomorrow and Sunday. Camping again (just the wife and I ).

All I can say is that's an interesting list, PL. ;)

Random shots, like I said. :) I'm not good at identifying styles, and I know a lot of people try for new things and new styles, so I figured I might get something right just by accident. :)

Thanks for being brave and taking the first guesses. I still have a couple more to read and just to help those creating matrix's I am afraid you got my story and I incorrect ;)

Will we read about this trip in the Summer Lovin' contest?

slyc, I need to shop at the camping stores where you do. When I go camping, all I get is mosquito bites and rock-shaped bruises on my ass. I am clearly doing it wrong.

I think you hit on "it." Literotica, being what it is, if something can't be physically stopped, some writers are going to do it. This will happen with editing of the stories, I think unless there's a physical way of preventing it from happening.

True, but I think what is being missed is that it's not a question of what was permitted. It is a question of what a writer does to make his/her work stand out above the rest with reader/voter and the criteron the reader has a right to use to give the higher ratings. At least one commenter on the stories assessed at least one story (and maybe others) as the use/integration of the elements being a distinguishing factor. This isn't an illegitimate assessment criteron--and it has nothing to do with what the basic requirements are for entering the exercise. It concerns what that commenter (quote logically) is using to scale and differentiate ratings of the stories.

Really, I think it's a basic consideration of whether you are going to try to be a superlative creative writer or a mediocre "well, I did what was required to do" one--and then expect to be rewarded higher than others for your degree of effort and creativity.

Oh I figure I'm completely wrong on all of them. :) Just trying to get the conversation going.

Travel trailer. Nuff said. I've got a campfire, wifi, wine, a bullfrog singing to me, bathroom, memory foam mattress, heat, AC, and a bald eagle that's flown down the creek twice in the last couple of weeks.
