I'm sure that it can't apply to all who behave in this way (And it is by no means behavior exclusive to men), but they find it easy to create things or events in their own minds that pin the blame and culpability squarely on you, for any and all wrongs. Then having created and started to live in in this make believe comfort zone, you essentially cease to exist.
