The Missouri State Fair Rodeo

There was some pretty bad shit aimed at Bush. Some of it worse than what I've seen against Obama. However there was of course no racism involved like there is now. When you mix the two it becomes much worse.

I agree with you (and thought about posting a Bush/Monkey picture for old time's sake) but quite a number of folks, myself included, got a bit testy when Dubya stole an election and started a pre-emptive war.

By comparison, Obama's "big sin" appears to have been the fact that he got himself elected. Twice.

Bush didn't steal an election. He wasn't smart enough or powerful enough to pull something like that off. The courts handed him an election.

I don't think he intentionally started a war based on lies either. I think he really believed what he was being told. I don't think he had much to do with it at all but once it was all exposed he wasn't able to just say "sorry" and pull out. He was stuck with his decision and that made him look way worse than he really was. The responsibility lies with him because that goes with the job but anyone who thinks he was actually responsible is fooling themselves.

yup

we should wait till there is BLOOOD ON THE STREETS OF MERICA before we start the candle lite virgils and naval gazing

Still here? You've been camping out for a couple of hours waiting for me to post, apparently. Is it raining today or something?

I never wait for you, you are like shit, you always float back up. :D

I definitely have a plan for the next time a Republican becomes President, now that there's a new standard of discourse. Maybe I can get a government grant for it.

"Bush stole an election" is rhetorical shorthand. The VRWC conspired to thwart the will of the American populace and gift Dubya with the presidency.

I strongly disagree. There is ample evidence that the Bush administration planned to invade Iraq beginning in January 2001....long before 9/11. 9/11 gave the administration sufficient cover to accomplish their goal.

The Bush admin may have planned (although it seems sorta conspiracy theory-like to me) but Bush himself I think was just a puppet like he was through most of his presidency. He may have wanted to see Hussein taken down because of dad but I think he was fed a line of bullshit a mile long and thought he could trust the people who were feeding it to him. As he should have, really. A president needs to be able to trust his people to be straight with him. I don't think anyone was straight with Dubya but he was unable to see it or admit it.

you mean the BILL THAT WAS PASSED BY CLITMAN and DUMZ in 2006

President George W. Bush often referred to the Act and its findings to argue that the Clinton Administration supported regime change in Iraq and further that it believed that Iraq was developing weapons of mass destruction. The Act was cited as a basis of support in the Congressional Authorization for use of Military Force Against Iraq in October 2002.[8]

I think that's a fairly accurate representation. A great deal of confirmation bias (i.e. "disregard inconvenient facts") happened back then.

In any event, it wasn't my plan to re-argue the failures of the Bush administration. Suffice to say, history will not be kind to him.

History is already being kinder to him than anyone thought. Over the years maybe that will change but he has already been talked about as not being nearly as bad as everyone thought while in office. Helps to have a successor who isn't all that great and a private life that has stayed quiet.
His book helped him, too. It was way better than anyone expected and gave him a tiny bit of respectability.

The antics led the state's second highest-ranking official, Lt. Gov. Peter Kinder, to denounce the performance in a tweet Sunday. He said it was "disrespectful" to the president.

"We are better than this," the Republican tweeted.
I wonder how many knee-jerk cons have labeled Kinder a RINO for his remarks...
