True, after working an inner city store, I was transferred to an affluent suburb. In the first two weeks there, I had employees come running to me about a suspicious person. So I go see a black male standing in the aisle, wearing a very expensive suit and tie. His suit probably cost more than these kids made in a month. His body language was all wrong, he was simply reading and comparing products.

Then a few weeks later, same thing, only a teen black male in the candy aisle. He looked like an average kid, hoodies weren't a big thing back then, but his body language was all wrong, he was just buying candy. But the three white teen girls next to him, they had the right body language, I caught them shoplifting.

I've seen Trayvon and his homies walk in the store at 3am, wander around aimlessly, whispering, wearing their hoodies and trenchcoats, and haul ass out the door as I watched them and made like I was talking on the phone.

Fuck all the WE ARE THE WORLD happy horseshit.

A different perspective

I am not a person of white privilege, I am clearly not white and all of my life, white people have pointed that out to me beginning in the early 60s when all wound up on John Wayne the white boys would come around to kick my ass and it continues to this day, not a week goes by that some white person does not inquire as to if I am and indian.

In a country of merit, as I just posted in another thread about one of my great teachers going on about the lazy bucks on the rez blaming the white man for all of their problems, people are judged by what they are and what they do. White people are pretty over racism, with the clear exception of few outliers, but as Barkley said, his community has those people too.

What we have here is a white guy, a liberal white guy, lecturing us on group politics. That is the whole problem, as I posted earlier in this thread, the rights of the individual were trampled in this case, and will continue to be trampled, over the imagined Social Justice rights of favored groups who are relegated to the unassailable victim class. Even yesterday, our President, steeped in Black Liberation theology noted that the violence in the black community was due to their history in this country. That is a recipe for national disaster, for no how many years go by, this is what this groups history will be, they will be held to a lesser standard, that dehumanization of gentle patronization of, they cannot help themselves, it is history, so we cannot tell them to pull up their pants, stop tagging the neighborhood, eschew drugs and get a job, because then we are racially insensitive at best, and probably racists at worst, and the latter, as the opinion piece pointed out, is increasingly becoming the norm.

As long as we group people and fight for social justice instead of regarding each individually and fighting for individual rights, we will be a house divided, at war with ourselves, and in a permanent state of social and economic decline, because as we have seen, Social Justice does not come cheap.
